Everett Historical Commission Meeting Summary Mar 23, 2021 Commissioners Staff Guests Steve Fox, Chair Karen Stewart Michael Houser Amelia Hieb Michelle Thompson Andrea Tucker Glenn Hunter Laura Cameron-Behee Patrick Hall Madison Vazquez Arnold Morrison (late) Thomas Feeney The virtual meeting convened at 6:30 pm with a roll call of Commissioners. Citizen Comments (for items not on tonight’s agenda) Chair Fox asked if there was a member of the public with comments or questions for items not on the agenda. No one spoke up with any comments. Approval of Prior Meeting Summary The meeting summary for the prior Historical Commission meeting held on Feb. 23, 2021 was reviewed with one correction made by Commissioner Hunter on page 2 that he had made the motion (not Commissioner Ramstad) to change the name of the street. A motion to approve the meeting summary, as corrected, was made by Commissioner Hunter, seconded by Commissioner Cameron-Behee and approved unanimously. Design Review Training Session Staff introduced our new CLG coordinator from DAHP, Michelle Thompson. Then staff introduced the night’s presenter, Michael Houser from DAHP who gave an hour-long slide presentation. Michael answered questions along the way and solicited comments and opinions from the commissioners. His slide show was recorded and the slides will be sent to the commissioners for future reference. The role and duties of a Certified Local Government (CLG) were discussed and a suggestion to request training on that topic. Staff will arrange a training session with Michelle for the June meeting. Commissioner and Staff Comments Staff reported that a new Planning Director had been selected by City Administration. Staff will invite him to our May meeting since there is no meeting in April. Commissioner Hall mentioned that he hoped his nomination to the National Register for the Longfellow Elementary School would be on the next agenda. Staff expressed confidence that it would be along with review for a review for addition of the Gowdy House located at 2803 19th St. to the Everett Register of Historic Places. Chair Fox noted that this would be the first house in the Delta neighborhood to be considered for listing. A motion to adjourn at 8:20 p.m. was made by Commissioner Hunter and seconded by Commissioner Cameron-Behee, with unanimous agreement. 1
