City of Excelsior Hennepin County, Minnesota Minutes Park and Recreation Commission Tuesday, June 12, 2018 1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL: Chair Wolfe called the meeting to order at 6:22 p.m. Commissioners present: Berghorst, Rogney, Sobiech, Wahlstedt and Chair Wolfe. Commissioners Absent: Honzl, Mullenbach Also present: Public Works Superintendent Tim Amundsen, Deb Rodgers with Community for the Commons. 2. AGENDA APPROVAL Berghorst moved, Wahlstedt seconded, to approve the agenda as presented, Motion carried 5/0. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM, May 15, 2018 Berghorst moved, Wahlstedt seconded, to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried 5/0. 4. CITIZEN REPORTS OR COMMENTS a) None 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS a) None 6. NEW BUSINESS a) Community for The Commons – Memorials Policy Deb Rogers, from Community for The Commons presented policies regarding Adopt-A-Seat and Adopt-A-Tree for The Commons Park. Sobiech moved, Wahlstedt seconded to recommend approval of Adopt-A-Seat and Adopt-A-Tree Policies. Motion carried 5/0. b) Schedule Joint Work Session with the City Council Monday, July 16th 2018 at 5:30 p.m. The Commissioners agreed this date worked and would like to discuss the following items: Minutes Park and Recreation Commission June 12, 2018 Page 2 of 3 b) Schedule Joint Work Session with the City Council Monday, July 16th, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. - Continued 1) Studer Park Usage 2) Gazebo Options 3) Mitten Pond Potential Usage 4) Park and Recreation Role for The Master Plan for The Commons 7. VERBAL REPORTS FOR DISCUSSION a) Partnership with Historical Society for Electrical boxes and ticket booths. Discussed no action taken. b) The Commons Master Planning: Briefed, no action taken. b) Eagle Scout Projects: Amundsen to keep information on the raised beds as a possibility for a later date. 8. UPDATES/INFORMATION (a) Ballpark Maintenance: Public Works Superintendent Tim Amundsen will add timer to the ballfield lights. (b) Community Garden Committee Report: Public works tilled the plots and are currently building a raised bed in a low-lying plot to study the feasibility for rental opportunities. (c) Concerts in the Park: Briefed, no action taken. (d) Park Maintenance Log: Briefed and vetted. Please provide printout list for the June meeting so Commission and Amundsen can vet. (e) Minnehaha Steam Boat Group: Please take off on agenda as no action provided by the Minnehaha group. (f) Discussion on Port Bell: Discussed, Park and Recreation Commissioners would like it moved to a more visible location, so it doesn’t look so lonely. 9. MONTHLY FINANCIALS: Berghorst moved, Sobiech seconded, to approve the May Financials. Motion carried 5/0. 10. MISCELLANEOUS/ COMMISSIONER COMMENTS a) Recent Council Action Discussed by Board, no recent actions. Minutes Park and Recreation Commission June 12, 2018 Page 3 of 3 11.
