Parks and Recreation Commission Meetings and Work Sessions

City of Excelsior Hennepin County, Minnesota Minutes Park and Recreation Commission Tuesday, September 10, 2019 1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL at 6:20 p.m. Commissioners present: Chair Wolfe, Sobiech, Gallow, Rogney and Wahlstedt. Also present: Public works Superintendent Tim Amundsen. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was no quorum for the August meeting. 3. EXCELSIOR STUDER PARK AND THE COMMONS WALKTHROUGH The Park and Recreation Commission met onsite at Excelsior Studer Park to view and discuss the condition of the Community Gardens. The Commission discussed the current conditions and suggested possible changes or improvements. Some of the suggested improvements included: -Surrounding Gardens with boards and walkway to define edges -Put in dedicated area for weeds -Better define where the plots are located -Designate the edges of the plots and/or mark the corners -Provide a storage area in the corner -Provide for early enrollment and have Commission review current application The Commission also discussed potential future uses for Excelsior Studer Park. Suggestions included: -Dog Park in the open area -Soccer Fields -Hockey Rink -Splash Pad -Something Unique Following the meeting at Studer Park, the Commission continued to The Commons. The Commission was provided an update on the repairs of the great lawn in front of the bandshell post-Ice Castles. The Commission provided guidance on the extent of repairs. The Commission also provided support for the use of organic horticultural vinegar to aide in the removal of existing grass. Staff would bring suggested options for repair to the City Council for approval. 4. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Rogney to adjourn, seconded by Wahlstedt, carries 5/0 Respectfully submitted, Tim J. Amundsen
