FAIRMONT PARKS COMMISSION August 16, 2017 Members present: Marianne Moran, Brad Merrifield, Corwin Russell, JR Bennett, and Neil Stalnaker Members absent: Patrick Snively Advisors present: Hanna Weaver Call to Order: Hanna Weaver called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm. Item 1. Approval of Minutes. Corwin Russell motioned to approve the minutes, JR Bennett 2nd. Minutes approved. Item 2. Communications & Announcements. Corwin Russell stated that one of the basketball hoops at Bellview is missing a net. Hann will give him replacements. Neil Stalnaker talked about Fairmont’s TIF district and if the money could be used for parks in the future. Brad Merrifield mentioned that there would be a work session with City Council about the Coal Run Hollow/Benoni Avenue closure on October 10th. After some discussion, JR Bennett motioned that Hanna draft a letter for the Commission to show support for the permanent closure of Benoni Avenue, Corwin Russell 2nd. Item 3. Parks Report. Hanna Weaver gave a report. WVU students painted playground equipment at Morris Park on the 15th. They completed all areas except for those, which a ladder was needed. Painting at City parks by the Day Report workers could take place on September 2nd or 30th. Either day will work. Replacement grills will be ordered for Windmill and other parks to be placed at pavilions. Old Business. JR Bennett brought up the City Cemetery and that the City needs t clean it up, possibly with help from the Day Report center in the winter time. Neil Stalnaker mentioned that WVU is building a new recreation facility in Morgantown that could have possible effects on putting one in Fairmont. Corwin Russell mentioned that there have continued to be scheduling conflicts at the soccer field. Hanna Weaver requested that the September meeting be moved from September 20th to September 27th because she will be out of town. Corwin Russell made the motion to move the meeting, Neil Stalnaker 2nd. New Business. Corwin Russell motioned to adjourn, Marianne Moran 2nd. Meeting was adjourned at 7:14.
