FAIRMONT PARKS COMMISSION July 19, 2017 Members present: Marianne Moran, Brad Merrifield, Corwin Russell, JR Bennett, and Patrick Snively, Neil Stalnaker Members absent: Dora Grubb Advisors present: Hanna Weaver and Robin Gomez Call to Order: Hanna Weaver called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. Item 1. Approval of Minutes. JR Bennett motioned to approve the minutes, Marianne Moran 2nd. Minutes approved. Item 2. Communications & Announcements. Item 3. Parks Report. Hanna Weaver gave a brief report. Waiting to hear about Norwood Park grants. Old Business. Morris Park tennis and basketball court resurfacing is complete. Lines still need to be painted. The Norwood Park agreement with Victory Baptist Church will be revisited when the status of grant applications and the playground project are known. Neil Stalnaker mentioned making sure that we leave room for smaller pieces of playground equipment for the future. New Business. WVU Students will be coming to Morris Park to paint the playground equipment on August 15th as part of Welcome Week. Bellview Basketball court quotes will be obtained. A preliminary quote was obtained for $5,764. Brad Merrifield motioned to proceed with pursuing other quotes to get the project done this year. JR Bennett 2nd. Robin Gomez announced that the City purchased 7 parcels around Windmill Park at the WV State Auditor’s tax sale. The process to finalize the purchase is underway. The Windmill Park Softball proposal was sent to all members of the Parks Commission and it was decided to request receipts from previous years for improvement supplies and services. JR Bennett made a motion to collect a fee for the Men’s Softball League & Tournaments in an amount to be determined by the City Manager, to go into effect August 10th. Brad Merrifield 2nd.
