FAIRMONT PLANNING COMMISSION The regular meeting of the Fairmont Planning Commission was held on March 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Public Safety Building located at 500 Quincy Street. President Straight called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and asked for a roll call of members. ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS MEMBERS PRESENT MEMBERS ABSENT Commissioner Yann Commissioner Blickenstaff Commissioner Majic Commissioner Carpenter Commissioner Greene Commissioner Parker Commissioner Richardson President Straight Commissioner Greene motioned to excuse the Commissioner Blickenstaff from the meeting. Commissioner Yann seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0 CITY STAFF City Planner – Sandra Scaffidi Senior Staff Assistant - Maria Cipolla PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Commissioner Parker led the Commissioners in the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM February 21, 2018 and March 7, 2018 Commissioner Greene motioned to approve the minutes from the previous two meetings. Commissioner Richardson seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0 PUBLIC HEARING FOR March 21, 2018 None PUBLIC HEARING TO SET FOR April 18, 2018 None PUBLIC HEARING TO SET FOR May 16, 2018 1. Mykron Development is requesting a rezone of 6 parcels bordering the May Brother’s Concrete Company from General Residential to Main Corridor Commercial. President Straight asked City Planner, Sandra Scaffidi for the staff report. Sandra Scaffidi: We have an application to rezone the area around 139 Wabash Street identified as Marion County Tax Map 06-09, parcels 20; 26.1; 76; 41.6; 41.7; 41.8; 41.9. The applicant is requesting to rezone the subject area from General Residential Use to Main Corridor Commercial to construct townhouses. Main Corridor Commercial zoning district runs along the river side. The zoning would be extended if the application goes through. The application appears to be in order and I recommend the Planning Commission set the date for a public hearing for May 16, 2018. Commissioner Yann motioned to set this request for a public hearing. Commissioner Greene seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0 NEW BUSINESS 1. Jesse Richardson, from the WVU Law Clinic, will conduct a workshop regarding best practices for Planning Commissions. The workshop was cancelled due to weather and has been rescheduled for April 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. CITIZENS PETITION (For items not listed on the agenda) Citizens must register in advance with the recording secretary. None OTHER BUSINESS Commissioners Comment: Commissioner Richardson requested improved sidewalks. Staff Updates: Sandra Scaffidi informed the Commissioners that there is a vacancy on the Planning Commission and to encourage anyone they think would be interested in the position and lives in the City limits to apply. ADJOURNMENT President Straight asked for a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Parker motioned to adjourn. Commissioners Richardson seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0
