The meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Laura Hull at 9:35 am.
Minutes:
Meeting minutes from October meeting had not been submitted in time for this meeting.
TLCCF Report:
Keith Thurston was not present to provide TLCCF report
Arts & Humanities Grant Award Update:
Corey Jannicelli provided a reminder to organizations who received a grant need to submit
their grant agreement forms and the organizations can submit for reimbursement as soon as
funds are spent. Reimbursement forms can be found at
http://www.fallschurchva.gov/1844/Grant-Programs-for-Arts-Humanities
Arts & Cultural District MAP
The Map drafted in 2008 does not include important art locations in the city such as Art
and Frame and the Kensington (home to Falls Church Arts).
Barb Cram recommends surveying other localities Arts & Cultural Maps and how they
are used.
o Recommendation was made to call VCA who may have already collected this
data.
Suggestion was made to connect with EDA for their support on this project
The A&H Council agreed to submit a formal request to present Art & Cultural District
Map options to the Planning Department.
Recommendation was made to bring several A&H Council members to meeting to
show level of support.
Next Steps- Barb Cram will follow up with Paul Stoddard

AE5 Action Plan Review:
Members were asked to review the PowerPoint created on the data collected in last
year’s survey to be presented to City Council
The following edits were recommended
o More clarity on where the economic plan objectives come from on PPT slide
o Concerns that the PPT is too art centric and History/Culture is not represented
enough
o Washington Sinfonietta is misspelled in PPT
Next Steps- Additional recommendations should be emailed to Barb Cram
Planning and Development Update:
Insight project passed by Council and will be available for review at next meeting.
Next Steps: Laura Hull will Invite Insight to come to the Dec meeting

GMHS presenting Spamalot Nov 16, 17, 18
Providence Players would like to be more involved in Falls Church Arts
Todd Hitt Fund for the Arts gave $100K to the Falls Church Education Foundation to
support arts programming.
Washington SInfonietta - Concert this Saturday 11/18 at 7:30 Big Horns.
GMHS Chorus will participate in the December Sinfonietta and Mayor conducting
Holiday Concert December 10 at 4:00.
Halloween promotions worked well, but concerns that it didn't get wide distribution.
o Marybeth will start a Holiday event promotional piece.
Holiday Tree Lighting November 27 6:00-8:00 p.m. Businesses and arts groups are
welcome to come and participate. GMHS Chorus will be singing. Laura Hull will
bring Madeline actors, and would like to do them right at 6:00. Will need sound
system.
Holiday Teas at Cherry Hill - Dec 9-10
Children’s Holiday Shoppe, Dec 2 - store and shopping for kids.
A Very Victorian Christmas, Saturday, Nov 25 at Farmhouse. Hosted by Victorian
Society.
Creative Cauldron has many holiday events
o Shenandoah Run concert
o Two for a Song on Dec. 17
o Madeline's Christmas
Victorian Society fundraiser for Creative Cauldron to help fund the Snow Queen.
Docent tours at Mt. Hope 1:00-5:00 $10 for tour
20th Anniversary of Watch Night
o Including searchlights in the streets
o Looking for a gospel group to sing in the FC Episcopal
o Need funding and partners
Tinner Hill partnering with Fairfax NAACP on 100th Anniversary New Year's event
at Fairfax Marriott at Fair Oaks. Will miss Watch Night but will send at least on
eperson to recognize the 20th anniversary of Watch night. and will work with them
throughout 2018

Present options and overlays (arts, theater, culture, history) each with
separate overlay defining the 2.2 sq. miles. Option presented in 2008
commercial district for tax benefit purposes, sliding BPOL, etc. is what most
small localities in our area do, ex. Leesburg. Discuss this and see examples.

Arts & Humanities Council to review and comment – December & January
