Arts and Humanities Council of Falls Church Meeting January 17, 2019 Falls Church Arts Minutes Members Present: Corey Jannicelli, Barb Cram, Sally Cole, Laura Hull, Edwin Henderson, Marybeth Connelly, Letty Hardi, Rosemary Ziskind, Ron Anzalone, Lindy Hockenberry, Ellen Gross Guests: Keith Thurston (CATCH Foundation), John Daniels (Office of Congressman Beyer) Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Barb Cram at 9:35 am. Minutes: Meeting minutes from December were approved TLCCF Report: o Watch Night 2018 o Rain caused the event to cancel inflatables and rock wall but added a photo booth indoors. o Looking into an indoor alternative for mainstage for bad weather in future years. o Suggestion made to use flashing starts to mark Watch Night event locations Development Update:  There will be coordination between the West End development and the VA tech and WAMATA projects to make all projects more cohesive.  Argia’s will be replaced by another Italian restaurant  VPIS has expressed concerns that the downtown park did not follow a formal enough process to provided enough opportunity for community feedback  Library renovation discussions are underway with community input to happen soon o Library has signed an MOU with TJ to use the trailers during construction Old Business:  Heritage Days o Second planning meeting was held on Jan 16 with Ron Anazlone, Diane Morse, Ed Henderson, Marybeth Connelly, Barb Cram and Corey Jannicelli were present o The group discussed how to define Falls Church Heritage and identified potential programs that would fall within the Heritage Days project o The group will reconvene before the next A&H Council Meeting 1   Public Art Policy o The following individuals meet on Jan 16 to review the first draft of the Public Art Policy. Barb Cram, Keith Thurston, Sally Cole, Letty Hardi, Irene Chambers and Corey Jannicelli o Discussion included what is Public Art and how to create a process for all types of public art including permanent, temporary and event art along with Art that is on public or private property. o Group will meet again before the Feb A&H Council meeting and will share a draft of the Public Art Policy in February.  Signal Boxes o Graphic is now ready and will be installed as soon as the weather warms up to 50 degrees  Downtown Park o Some landscaping will be started in March o City Council’s upcoming work session will include discussion on park names New Business:  None Roundtable:  MLK Day March on Jan 21 at 1:00 pm hosted by the THHF and Social Justice Committee of Falls Church o Event will honor Civil Rights History o Church Service will begin at 1:30 pm o Congressman Beyer will be speaking at the event o Event highlights the need for increasing City’s special events budget  Creative Cauldron continues to host Passport to the World curated by Ken Avis  Victorian Society at Falls Church is working to reschedule its literary reading from Oct  Cherry Hill’s Barn Restoration will begin in January to repair the northwest cornerpost  FCPS have begun their second half of the school year  FCA Exposure opening was standing room only o Feb 9 FCA will host Justin Black for a presentation on landscape composition  Chamber Mixer to take place on Jan 29 from 5:30 pm to 7pm o Many community businesses are offering discounts to Federal Gov’t employees  Friends of Cherry Hill Foundation hosts Valentine’s Day tea on Feb 10  City Council has announced Monday as a day of service for MLK o Elementary kids are working on meal packs o Blood drive will take place outside TJ on Monday morning o Council is inviting the community to join them at Sunrise Monday at 3pm to engage with local seniors citizens  Don Beyer is hosting at town hall meeting on Jan 17 at Yorktown HS  Ed Henderson is working with the Library on a display for Black History Month Adjourn Meeting was adjourned by at 11:03 am Next Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 21 at 9:30 am at Falls Church Arts 2 Submitted: By Corey Jannicelli 3
