Arts and Humanities Council of Falls Church Meeting October 17, 2019 Dogwood Room, City Hall Minutes Members Present: Corey Jannicelli, Sally Cole, Rosemary Ziskind, Laura Hull, Letty Hardi, Barb Cram(via phone), Marybeth Connelly, Stephanie Oppenheimer, Ed Henderson, Irene Chambers Guests: None Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Corey Jannicelli at 9:37 am. Minutes: Meeting minutes from August and September were approved TLCCF Report: o None Development Update:  Founders Row o Corey will send timeline for mural design  Mr. Browns Park o Mural proposal is moving forward to be installed this fall o Letty Hardi shared a copy of the proposed design which includes a landscape image of hot air balloons as subtle node to our Civil War history with Thaddeus Lowe o Artist selected is Craig English who worked for Mr. Brown as a delivery boy  High School Project o New School will incorporate the current memory names on bricks, benches and trees into a memory garden o School will include kiosks in the main entrance and gym with additional information about those being memorialized in the garden. Fundraising for kiosks will begin targeted at alumni.  Library o Guarantee maximum price to be shared soon o The library is planning to keep as much shelving and furniture as possible to cut down on cost.  West Falls Church o Project meeting with A&H Council, Historical Commission and the Recreation and Parks Department on Thursday Oct 3 at 7pm 1  o The conversation was focused on place making per the VCs o The common areas will be broken into 5 zones to create space for storm water management, 2 food/beverage areas, play, and open space o The company plans to incorporate several pieces of art such as murals, sculptures, usable art in the commons area. o Members of the Historical Commission offered to provide a bus tour of the city to showcase some stories of historical importance to the City o Additional Town Halls on the West End Project will take place on Nov 12, Nov 13 and Dec 12 o The SESP is scheduled to be submitted in January, followed by more public meetings. Old Business: o Public Art Policy Guidelines  Corey Jannicelli met with Planning Department staff who had concerns about staffing and cost around the implementation of the Public Art Policy  Corey is now scheduling a meeting with department Directors to provide additional guidance to staff o Traffic Boxes  graphic has been submitted to CSI for printing  Printing scheduled for next week  Barb will submit Public Works Right Away Permit when date for wrapping has been determined o Heritage Days  Submit event description with dates and times to Barb Cram for general 2020 calendar by Dec 15 New Business:  Vertis Statue o Item will be showcased in Falls Church Gallery following this year’s Women’s Walk o Currently looking for a storage location. The statue is 3.5 feet tall Roundtable:  Oct 19 – Organica II show at Falls Church Arts  Oct 22 – 20th Anniversary of Erik Pelton from 5:30 – 7 pm at Claredons  Nov 15 – Bright Lights in the Little City- Gala at State Theatre – Tickets are $85 Music by Washington Sinfonietta and Grandsons  Nov 19 – Nonprofit Forum at Hilton Garden Inn  Oct 28 – City Council proclamation – November is Live Local month  Oct 25 – Victorian Society literary Evening at Cherry Hill Farmhouse, Edgar Allen Poe  Nov 2 – Elizabeth Cady Stanton at 1 pm  Nov 30 – Very Victorian Christmas at Cherry Hill Farmhouse from 10 am to 2 pm  Through Oct 27 –Disenchanted at Creative Cauldron 2   Creative Cauldron was accepted into the Catalog of Philanthropy as a community change maker!  January – Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation Annual Meeting will be open to the community  Jan 20 – MLK Day March  Oct 14 – City Council recognized Indigenous People Day  Falls Church will have a scooter pilot plan by the end of the year  Oct 24 – City Council Candidate event at 7 pm  Oct 24 – Lee Highway Safety Meeting for community between Tinner Hill Rd and Graham Road  Oct 17 – Candidate Forum at Mason High school at 7pm  Nov – School Musical is Chorus Line  June 20-21 – George Mason High School Alumni weekend Adjourn Meeting was adjourned by at 10:00 am Next Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 21 at 9:30 am at City Hall, Dogwood Room Submitted: By Corey Jannicelli 3
