Regular Meeting of Advisory Board Recreation and Parks Held at the Falls Church Community Center, Kenneth R. Burnett Building 223 Little Falls Street, Falls Church, Virginia 22046 Minutes October 3, 2019 1. Call to Order Charley O’Hara called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. Members present were Charley O’Hara, Bill Brew, Kathy Chandler, Kim Hicks, Leslie Rye, Planning Commission Representative, Melissa Teates, Student Representative, Emma Roncoroni, Daniel Schlitt, Director of Recreation and Parks, and Janelle Kirby. 2. Receipt of Public Petitions and Board Members Petitions None 3. Minutes for Approval: September 4, 2019 Kim Hicks motioned to have the safety topics from last meeting added to the minutes. Bill Brew seconded the motion. Charley O’Hara motioned to approve minutes with corrections. Motion passed.3- 0 and 2 abstentions. 4. Recreation Directors Report - Fall Church Festival was great; beautiful weather and everyone did a nice job - Sunset Cinema – This week (Friday, October 4, 2019): Back to the Future - Farm Day – Next weekend (Saturday, October 12, 2019) - Danny met with Publics Safety (Joe Carter) and discussed safety for recreation and parks employees o Looking into getting keyless entry for the administrative doors o 1 click panic buttons for all staff which will include dispatch being able to listen in on conversations once panic button is hit. - Mr. Brown’s Park opened this week (Monday, September 30, 2019) o No smoking in the park seems to be less of an issue than originally thought. o Naomi Goodwin (Economic Development) working with Recreation and Parks to handle Mr. Brown bookings and to help introduce the park in the community. o Mr. Brown’s Park being added to Recreation and Parks new rental application 5. New Business None 6. Old Business A) Ribbon Cutting at Larry Graves Park o Coming up o Some concerns about the turf and the material and if it is safe B) West Falls Church Development - Communication about: o Use of Central Green o Coordination needs to be had about special events o Monitor needed for the track because people are going to want to use it. 7. Adjournment Bill Brew motioned adjourn the meeting. Leslie Rye seconded the motion. Under unanimous vote the meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM.
