Arts and Humanities Council of Falls Church Meeting September19, 2019 Dogwood Room, City Hall Minutes Members Present: Corey Jannicelli, Sally Cole, Rosemary Ziskind, Laura Hull, Letty Hardi, Barb Cram(via phone) Guests: Keith Thurston (TLLCF), Jeff Hollern (Planning Department), Lyn Sherlock (Falls Church DAR) Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Corey Jannicelli at 9:37 am. Minutes: Meeting minutes from August were not approved due to lack of quorum TLCCF Report: o Watch Night planning and fundraising has begun Development Update:  Founders Row o Developers are looking into submitting their site plan this week o Jeff Hollern intends to use the Arts & Humanities Council meetings as the stage for public engagement on public art for this project o Developers have hired Street Sense to lead the mural process and identify artist. o Current idea is creating something whimsical, think big, inspiration o Past idea included recognition to Tree City USA o Need to make sure representative from St. James is included in the conversation.  Mr. Browns Park o Mural still in process, working with private owners on both sides to encourage public art o Barb Cram has a video interview of Mr. Brown that may be incorporated into a program for the park. Barb will contact Naomi Goodwin. o Grant Opening scheduled for Monday Sept 30 from 6pm – 7:30pm o Planters have been order to be placed in front of alley way o Businesses have benefited from the park  High School Project o Work currently on schedule with school to be finished Dec 2020/Jan 2021 with outside fields to be completed the following spring  Library 1 o Currently 2.5 million over budget  City Hall o Phones are now live, Wi-Fi coming soon  West Falls Church o Meeting with A&H Council, Historical Commission and Rec & Park Commission scheduled for Thursday Oct 3 at 7pm Old Business: o Public Art Policy Guidelines  Planning Department has reviewed our document and plan to schedule a meeting with Corey Jannicelli to review their edits.  Meeting with small working group will be scheduled in early Oct o Traffic Boxes  Company has re-measured box and art is being modified to accommodate added battery box  Goal is to have the project complete within 6 weeks New Business:  None Roundtable:  This is welcome week in Falls Church hosted by Welcoming Falls Church  Sept 13 – TINT: A Modern Makerspace (a fabric and textile arts shop and class venue) opened at 417 W Broad.  Sept 21- Donate to local food bank, drop off at Falls Church Community Center  Sept 24 – Chamber mixer at Hilton Garden Inn with Merrifield Business Association with live music and refreshments from 5:30 pm – 7 pm  Sept 24 – Falls Church Women’s History Walk Meeting at 7pm  Sept 25 – Home School Program: Life on a 19th Century Farm 10 am at Cherry Hill  Oct 3 – Disenchanted opens at Creative Cauldron  Oct 5 – Creative Cauldron Annual Gala, A Disenchanted Evening  Oct 12 – Farm Day 10 am to 3pm, please drop off clothing donations at the Community Center for Scarecrow Making.  Oct 12 – Oct 25 –Indigenous people drive at Falls Church Community Center  Oct 25 – Victorian Society Literary Evening, A Tribute to Edgar Allan Poe, 8pm at Cherry Hill Farmhouse  November will be Live Local Month  Nov 15 – Chamber Gala at State Theatre, Bright Lights in the Little City  Nov 19 –Chamber will host its annual Nonprofit Forum at the Hilton Garden Inn. Suggestions regarding time frame and format will be appreciated  DAR looking to provide more service to the Falls Church Community and willing to speak with nonprofits about the Historic Preservation Grant Adjourn 2 Meeting was adjourned by at 10:48 am Next Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 17 at 9:30 am at City Hall, Dogwood Room Submitted: By Corey Jannicelli 3
