Arts and Humanities Council of Falls Church Meeting June 16, 2022 Virtual Meeting Minutes Members Present: Laura Hull, Ron Anzalone, Ariadne Autor, Mary Sellers, Elise Neil Bengtson; Katharine Stewart, Maureen Budetti, Nikki Graves Henderson, Ron Anzalone Liaisons: Corey Price, Keith Thurston, Letty Hardi, Marybeth Connelly Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Laura Hull at 9:31 a.m. Receipt of Public Comments  No public comments were received Minutes: Minutes were approved for April and May meetings with recommended changes Roundtable Discussions  Victorian Society attended a performance of El Capitan in Rockville, MD  Cherry Hill has good visitation for tours but is recruiting more volunteer docents  FCA current show is Black and White. They also hosted a booth at the Memorial Day festival and planning the Plein Air festival for the fall  Chamber of Commerce welcomes Thomas Harvey who is already engaged in the community. Recommend organizations connect with Thomas Harvey about opportunities to work together.  The new Art spaces in the High School have been wonderful and are available for community use.  THHF had successful Music Festival. Juneteenth joint program with the Falls Church Episcopal Church includes the unveiling of mural at the old Black Smith Shop.  City Council draft 2-year work plan includes completing 4 art wraps on utility boxes.  Virginia State Historic Marker installed at Eden Center  Creative Cauldron had to cancel the last 5 performances of Into the Woods due to COVID. Upcoming performances include Always Patsy Cline, Summer Cabaret and Concert Series and also 10 weeks of summer camp. They have hired a new bi-lingual teacher and offering scholarships to students from title one schools with a bi-lingual performance planned.  VPIS is continuing to move forward with a remembrance sign for Arbor Day  CATCH will be hosting a community meeting at the end of June/early July for brainstorming Watch Night  Falls Church Arts and Humanities Grant Applications deadline is July 12 Old Business: A. Falls Church Art Walk  Site will focus on visual arts 1  Attribution to artists need to be added to the front page  Falls Church Arts and Art and Frame will be added to the Art Walk site and map  Continued interest in doing some kind of event in the fall  Working on making signs for each piece of art with a logo QR code and URL  Can we create a logo that will unify all the work happening with Art and Culture?  Consider using spray paint for footprint or tree leaves on the ground near art.  Speak with EDA about use of the Little City Logo B. Storm Drain Mural Project – Letty Hardi  Students completed 3 storm drain murals at the end of May  We hope this can become an annual project  Two of the artists presented their mural to the 5th grade classes C. Strategic Planning  Conversation postponed until July meeting New Business A. Tinner Hill Mural Project – Nikki Graves Henderson  Tinner Hill Mural Project focuses on History, Hope and Healing  Unveiling of mural for the old blacksmith shop scheduled for Sunday June 18  Mural completed by David Barr  The mural is painted on 3 panels of high quality plywood and attached to the building.  Another mural at Foxes Music is in the early design stages  Two additional murals designs are complete but do not have walls for installation  Calls for Walls campaign to encourage building owners to consent to Tinner Hill installing murals on their walls at no cost to the building owners Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 11:08 AM The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 21 Submitted: By Corey Price 2
