Members Present: Laura Hull, Ariadne Autor, Mary Sellers, Elise Neil Bengtson; Katharine

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Laura Hull at 9:34 a.m.
Receipt of Public Comments
No public comments were received
Minutes: Minutes were approved for June meetings
Roundtable Discussions
VPIS Spring Meeting on June 5th
o Focus on bike path safety and extension
o Annual T-shirt sale focus on hills and streams
FCA working on variety of classes for Fall
o Plein Air scheduled for Sept 24, participation form available on FCA website
o Current exhibition, Collab showcases two artists working together
City Council work plan includes 4 art wraps for municipal boxes
o Park Ave Great Streets projects
Falls Church West End Project
o Early stages of designing space to incorporate festivals, murals, installation
pieces and functional artwork.
Falls Church Art Walk updated website and routes based on requests made
o Letty is requesting use of “the little city” logo for the Art Walk project from
EDA
Creative Cauldron Cabaret series this summer and accepting fall class enrollment
New Business:
A. Storm Drain Mural Project
Murals should last about 5 years. Public Works plan to cover the murals with a
clear sealer to expand its life
Fiddy Family presents design for Berman Park
Butterfly and Dolphine Design
May need a special metal primer to adhere to the actual drain
Design needs to be aquatic in theme

Ho Family presents design for Cherry Hill Park
o Vibrant design including a whale, shark, red fish, yellow and black fish,
yellow seahorse, red starfish and green alge
o Recommendation to change whale to an orca whale to stand out against
the water color
Margie Jervis- Creative Cauldron
o Design- Everything here flows into the Chesapeake Bay
o Yellow fish filled with different designs working with volunteers and
summer campers
o One fish going a different direction
o Must say only rain down the storm drain
Recommend saving all original designs to add to the Art Walk Website
A. Storm Drain Mural Project – Letty Hardi
Students completed 3 storm drain murals at the end of May
We hope this can become an annual project
Two of the artists presented their mural to the 5th grade classes
B. Strategic Goals
Action 1: Expand reach of the arts to underserved and underrepresented artists
and audiences
1. Are the schools underserved? Under represented?
2. Develop relationship & develop project
3. Would seniors be another group to reach?
4. Can we invite the Eden Center to attend an AHC meeting?
5. BIPOC organizations?
Updated Action: Expand the reach of the Arts & Access
Action 2: Create a Communications Plan that raises visibility and awareness of
Arts & Humanities programs offered in the City of Falls Church: CATCH (City
of Arts, Theatre, Culture and History) branding
1. Lots of money has already been invested in CATCH Website,
can the AHC control the site.
2. Consider collaborating with newspress for weekly column
3. Schools do calendar collaboration
4. Would a year schedule be easier than a monthly process?
Action 3: Increase both permanent and temporary public art city wide
1. City Council Work plan includes 4 art box wraps
2. Park Ave Great Streets Project may have opportunities
Action 4: Increase Communication and Collaboration between Arts and
Humanities member organizations
1. All public art should be reviewed by this council

Action 5: Develop a plan for utilizing public performance spaces that are being
included in new development
Advocating what is in those spaces
Advise on planning, serve as a community resource
Follow up to make sure voluntary concessions happen as promised
