AURORA HOUSE GIRLS’ GROUP HOME CITIZEN’S ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES 07/11/2023 PURPOSE OF MEETING: The Aurora House Citizens’ Advisory Committee provides consultation to the Aurora House Manager regarding community resources and public awareness; advises the City Council and Arlington County Board of Aurora House's needs, budget, and services; and serves as community liaison through area organizations, civic groups, and other boards and commissions. DATE OF MEETING: July 11, 2023 PLACE OF MEETING: City Hall, Laurel Conference Room MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY: Chair, Christina Goodwin, at 7:02 PM THOSE PRESENT: Committee Members Staff Laura Economos Rachel Kindell Christina Goodwin, Chair Dana Jones Mariam Garriga Christine Katcher City Council Liaison Val Cloutier Caroline Lian Others Present: Rick Strobach, Deputy Director, Arlington Court Services Unit Approval of Minutes: May 9, 2023, Meeting Minutes approved. Group Home Manager’s Report:  Utilization remains at 6 but Aurora House will soon have 8.  1 successful discharge last month and will have 1 this week.  Department of Juvenile Justice Monitoring visit planned for August 22nd.  Discussed scholarship for 1 applicant. Olom-Porzel College Scholarship Fund Reports:  Applicant is employed. The application is put together well. Full amount requested is approved.  Committee members are open to reassessing an increase the amount of money awarded for scholarships. Historically, the maximum amount awarded has been $2,000. Scholarships Fund Balance Reports:  Approximately $20K between both accounts. New Business:  Mr. Strobach reported that Argus House is currently at 9 and he would like to get them back to full capacity at 12.  Argus House does not have an Advisory Committee but there have been discussions about changing that.  Ms. Jones reported that Ms. Kindell was able to take some, much needed, time off.  Ms. Jones reported that the City has received opioid funds for substance use training and substance abuse related items.  Dr. Bracey participated in a Marcus Alert (mental health crisis or need) to assist the FCPD. Dr. Bracey also participated in CIT Training.
