MINUTES OF COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE MEETING PURPOSE OF MEETING: To interview prospective candidates for appointment to boards and commissions, to discuss applicants and/or reappointments, and to conduct exit interviews with previous board and commission members. DATE OF MEETING: October 12, 2022 LOCATION: Oak Room, City Hall, 300 Park Avenue, Falls Church, VA. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY: Letty Hardi at 8 p.m. THOSE PRESENT: Appointments Committee Members Ms. Connelly: ✓ Ms. Lian: ✓ Ms. Hardi: ✓ OTHERS PRESENT: Jenny Carroll TOPICS OF DISCUSSION: Candidate Schedule: ✓8:00 p.m. a) New Applicant: Justine Underhill – Housing Commission* ✓8:15 p.m. b) New Applicant: Jessica Labukas – Library Board of Trustees – (07/01/22) – 06/30/26 (Unexpired Term) c) Previously Interviewed: Chris Behr – Environmental Sustainability Council - (03/01/20) – 02/28/23 (Unexpired Term) * Housing Commission: Three applicants for two available terms. Both terms are (01/01/20)-12/31/22 (Unexpired Term). Consider appointing selected applicants to the remainder of the term and the next term of 01/01/23-12/31/25. Interviewed 7/13/22: Gene Gresko Interviewed 9/14/22: Grayson Timoner One additional term on the Housing Commission will expire 12/31/22 and this position was included in standard advertising beginning October 1. Candidates for the upcoming expiring term, including requests for reappointment, would likely be considered in December or January. [Candidates interviewed and considered at the October 12, 2022 Appointments Committee meeting.] ROLL CALL VOTE: Council Member Connelly: ✓ Council Member Lian: ✓ Council Member Hardi: ✓ Upon motion made by Committee Member Connelly, seconded by Committee Member Lian, and passed by vote of the Appointments Committee, the Committee reconvened in open session. ROLL CALL VOTE: Council Member Connelly: ✓ Council Member Lian: ✓ Council Member Hardi: ✓ COMING OUT TIME: 9:12 p.m. CERTIFICATION Upon motion made by Committee Member Connelly, and seconded by Committee Member Lian, and passed upon affirmative roll call vote in open session, it was certified that (i) only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements and (ii) only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the closed meeting was convened were heard, discussed or considered in the closed session or meeting by the Appointments Committee.
