To request a reasonable accommodation for any type of disability call (703) 248-5456, (TTY 711). Minutes Falls Church Environmental Services Council Thursday, March 21, 2013 7:30 - 9:30 pm Magnolia Room, G Corridor ESC Council members present: Peter Adriance, Peter Oppenheimer, Tim Stevens (chair) Allison Lohrenz (City staff liaison) New Business The council received a presentation from the developers and architects of the Reserve at Tinner Hill mixed-use project proposed for South Maple Avenue. The project offers a number of positive features for the City. Peter Oppenheimer agreed to compile comments shared during the presentation on behalf of the ESC to be submitted to the City Clerk. The comments will focus on our interest in finding out if any of the LEED Silver points pursued by the developer will involve energy efficiency. We will recommend that the developer purchase RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates) which will help them achieve a higher LEED score, and help Falls Church City reach the EPA Green Power Community challenge targets. We will recommend that the developer install conduit in the apartment garage parking area so that it will be easier and less costly to facilitate charging of personal Electric Vehicles in the future. We will also encourage the developer to use pervious pavers in the planned outdoor plazas. Old Business The ESC discussed the community forum on stormwater planned for April 3 in the Community Center. The ESC will act as "host" and introduce the session, focusing on historic (and largely unsuccessful) efforts to address non-point sourced stormwater pollution. This contrasts with the relatively successful efforts to address point-sourced water pollution, which is generally more visible. The objective will be for us to help communicate the environmental context for moving forward with a stormwater management plan. Informational Items Allison shared plans for establishing a demonstration composting facility on the grounds of City Hall. She also brought us up to date with planning for composting in the greater Washington, D.C. area. (Food waste makes up a sizable percentage of municipal solid waste).
