ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY COUNCIL ENERGY TRANSITION SUBCOMMITTEE Thursday, December 6, 2018 at George Mason High School Library MINUTES CALL TO ORDER: Members: Tim Stevens (Chair), Thomas Cash, Jon Ward, Erika Myers, Andy Skellaris, Chris Thompson Guest Speaker: Tom Clinton, Commissioner of Revenue Ongoing Business - Promote use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) within the City The committee discussed possible ways to incentivize EV ownership by City residents through modification of the personal property tax applicable to privately owned cars. EVs are typically more expensive to purchase than comparable internal combustion vehicles (although they are designed to save money versus internal combustion vehicles to operate and maintain). Personal property taxes are assessed based on transactional market prices, which are high in the initial years of an EV life cycle. Adjournment
