Page 1 of 2 MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: May 21, 2015 PLACE OF MEETING: Oak Room, 3rd floor East, City Hall MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY: Vicki Barnes at 6:30p.m. THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff: Nancy Vincent Vicki Barnes Craig Cheney Anne Norloff Student Representatives: OTHERS PRESENT: • Patricia Rohrer, Fairfax County • There were no petitions APPROVAL OF MINUTES: • The minutes from April 16 were moved and seconded and unanimously approved. OLD BUSINESS: • Vicki Barnes will distribute a draft of the annual report to Council the HSAC members for review and comment. Nancy Vincent will set a date for the report to be delivered. • The Human Services section of the comprehensive plan is under development and will be reviewed by HSAC at a coming meeting NEW BUSINESS: • Patricia Rohrer, Long Term Care Program Development Director for Fairfax County, provided an overview of existing Fairfax County support and models for Aging-in- Community/Villages. She provided an overview of the models that exist in Northern Virginia and elsewhere and the pros and cons of the different approaches. She also talked about the practical challenges in making these various models work and the potential first steps in thinking about starting a village. (See attached) • Ms. Rohrer also provided information about related concepts for serving different communities that already exist through churches and other groups in the Falls Church area, which may be very important to know about to avoid overlapping and redundant service provision. Page 2 of 2 • HSAC members discussed the various concepts and agreed to have further discussions about the models and needs in Falls Church as a project for its next several meetings. Eventually, HSAC would like to recommend some next steps to the City Council for thinking about better coordinating and providing voluntary services to seniors to allow them to remain in place in the City.
