Page 1 of 2 MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: December 15, 2016 PLACE OF MEETING: Oak Room, 3rd floor East, City Hall MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY: Craig Cheney, Chair at 6:34 p.m. THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff: Craig Cheney_X__ Nancy Vincent_X__ Alisa Macht_X__ Shelly Mastran_X__ Nicole Newnam_X__ Anne Norloff_X__ City Council Liaison Debra Roth___ Marybeth Connolly_X__ Student Representative Esther Kim___ APPROVAL OF MINUTES: • None were approved. OLD BUSINESS: • FY 2017 Community Services Fund Reprogramming Shelter House changed their approved program from what was funded for the current fiscal year. This left $3,000 to be redistributed. Members unanimously voted to grant an additional $1,000 each to Falls Church Community Services Council, Homestretch, and Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter. Staff will inform the recipients and verify that the funds will be used this fiscal year. • Community Services Fund process Members would like to hear presentations from the applicants. This would include information about what’s new, what they would like to do differently, what they did last year that was positive, and if they are given more, what would they do with it. Presentations will last no more than 15 minutes including questions. NEW BUSINESS: • City Visioning Shelly Mastran presented information about the City’s visioning process that is occurring as part of the Comprehensive Plan public engagement effort. Comments about the vision are due by January 9. Some member comments were to change the term responsible to accountable; to use affordable housing statistics as presented in the City’s annual report; display a commitment to tolerance, acceptance, diversity, inclusivity; and cares for its most vulnerable, demonstrates its commitment to a diverse population that spans the Page 2 of 2 generations. Craig asked members to send him their comments and he would compile them into one document.
