Page 1 of 2 MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: May 18, 2017 PLACE OF MEETING: Oak Room, City Hall MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY: Craig Cheney at 6:31 p.m. THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff: Craig Cheney (chair) Sue Richter Alisa Macht Nancy Vincent Nicole Newnam Anne Norloff Student Representative Debra Roth Esther Kim Others present: Julie Harrison, Theresa Twiford APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes from the April 18, 2017 joint meeting with the Housing Commission were approved as amended. NEW BUSINESS: FY 2018 Rent Relief Approval Sue gave an overview of the Rent Relief program for low income seniors and people with disabilities. There are six eligible participants this year, down from eight last year. Members asked that City Council members be given the apartment and rent surveys along with historical information. Nicole moved to approve the participants. Debra seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Railroad Cottage Housing Development Proposal Theresa Twiford, a developer for the proposed new development, gave an overview of the project. Julie Harrison, a community member, expressed concerns about the project. Members discussed benefits and concerns and will submit a recommendation to the Planning staff. Election of Chair Members will elect a new Chair at the June meeting. STAFF REPORT: • May 22 is the volunteer recognition reception at 6:30 p.m. at the Cherry Hill Farmhouse. • The City is purchasing new voting machines.
