MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: February 15, 2018 PLACE OF MEETING: Oak Room, City Hall MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY ALISA MACHT: at 6:33 p.m. THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff: Craig Cheney (chair) Sue Richter Alisa Macht Nancy Vincent Nicole Newnam (by phone) Anne Norloff Student Representative Debra Roth Esther Kim Mr. Cheney moved to allow Ms. Newman to participate via phone and it was seconded by Ms. Norloff. Ms. Newman stated she was at home and unable to appear while caring for her newborn baby. The motion passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from January 18, 2018 were approved. OLD BUSINESS:  FY 2019 Community Services Fund – Review of applications/recommended funding HSAC members discussed the merits of the ten proposals that were submitted for Community Services Funding. The total amount of funding requests received for FY 2019 was $97,470 with available funds of $83,400; as a result, $14,070 of requests could not be funded. The results of HSAC deliberations are attached. HSAC members will provide suggested reporting measures they would like for FCHC Virginia Community Development Corporation and Images for Good. A motion was made by Mr. Cheney to accept the recommended funding that is attached and Ms. Roth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. City staff and HSAC Chair will prepare and send to City Council HSAC’s recommendations to be included in the Fiscal Year 2019 budget.  Affordable Housing policy revision Mr. Cheney will chair the Affordable Housing workgroup and Tori McKinney from the Housing Commission will serve as vice-chair. NEW BUSINESS:  Request for joint meeting from Citizens Advisory Committee on Transportation The Citizens Advisory Committee on Transportation requested a joint meeting with HSAC. Members agreed they would like to meet with the committee.  Budget report Nancy gave a brief update on the budget. City Council will be meeting in March to discuss and final approval will be in April.  Other - Rotating Chair while Nicole is out. The group agreed this worked and Craig Cheney will chair the next meeting. - The HSAC meeting scheduled for March 15 will be rescheduled to March 22. STAFF REPORT  Aurora House was approved by the State to establish a transitional housing program for young women up to age 20.  Metropolitan Washington Ear will be doing a presentation at the Senior Center at 1:30 on March 6.  A suicide intervention training is being held 2/28-3/1. Residents are invited to participate.
