MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: March 22, 2018 PLACE OF MEETING: Oak Room, City Hall MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY CRAIG CHENEY: at 6:33 p.m. THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff: Craig Cheney (chair) Sue Richter Alisa Macht Nancy Vincent Nicole Newnam (by phone) Anne Norloff Student Representative Debra Roth Tahaseen Shaik Ms. Roth moved to allow Ms. Newman to participate via phone and it was seconded by Ms. Macht. Ms. Newman stated she was at home and unable to appear while caring for her baby. The motion passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from February 15, 2018 were approved. OLD BUSINESS:  Affordable Housing Policy revision A workgroup, chaired by Mr. Cheney, has been convened to recommend updates to the City’s Affordable Housing Policy. There will be a series of four meetings: 1) introduce participants, discuss scope, and set ground rules; 2) discuss policy; 3) draft language; and 4) finalize language that will be taken to City Council by the end of June. The meetings are open to the public. Send Mr. Cheney any ideas regarding affordable housing in the City.  Healthy Eating Active Living initiative Three committees are working to develop policy around bikability and walkability, healthy vending, and community gardens.  Agenda items for proposed joint meeting with the Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Transportation Members would like to discuss walkability, shuttle service, inconsistent sidewalks creating hazards for the disabled, busy streets, wheel chair access, accessibility for visually impaired, hard to get around cross walks, accessibility of lights, areas that require improvements, triage critical intersections, inability to see all walk signs, audible traffic signals, light too short at West and Broad. How are these factored in to deliberations? What are the available transportation programs?   Community Services Fund Members discussed metrics they would like to see reported on by the grantees. For Images for Good state how the program provides benefits to the community as a whole rather than simply benefits to the students. For the Falls Church Housing Corporation list what types of things iPads will be used for, how many start the iPad class, and how many finish it. NEW BUSINESS:  Planning for Child Abuse Prevention/Sexual Assault Awareness Month A pinwheel garden will be planted at Cherry Hill Park on March 26 at 7:00 p.m. and a proclamation will be presented at the City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Ms. Macht and Ms. Roth volunteered to present the proclamation.
