MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: April 19, 2018 PLACE OF MEETING: Gage House MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY CRAIG CHENEY: at 6:36 p.m. THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff: Craig Cheney (chair) Sue Richter Alisa Macht Nancy Vincent (by phone) Nicole Newnam (by phone) Debra Roth Student Representative Tahaseen Shaik Ms. Macht moved to allow Ms. Newman to participate via phone and it was seconded by Mr. Cheney. Ms. Newman stated she was at home and unable to appear while caring for her newborn baby. The motion passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: OLD BUSINESS:  Affordable Housing Policy revision Mr. Cheney provided an update on the committee meeting. The group is made up of two teachers, two developers, one senior, two housing development professionals, a housing program client, and member of the housing and planning commissions. During the first meeting, they reviewed the current policy and terms and brainstormed on areas to revise. The second meeting had some of the same elements as the first meeting and a review of the housing data was discussed. The third meeting will take place on May 15th. The fourth meeting of the group will be sometime in June.  Healthy Eating Active Living initiative Falls Church was deemed to be the healthiest city in America by U.S. News. The HEAL committee will do a presentation to the City Council in June. NEW BUSINESS:  Updates to Child Care Ordinance code changes Ms. Richter provided the group with a summary of the childcare ordinance that will be updated in June. The changes are in line with state requirements and include new barrier crimes and new requirements for background and fingerprinting checks.  Assisted Living Programs Update There have been changes in the Sunrise program. The change is focused on low-income applicant’s use of the state Auxiliary Grant that is meant to cover all services provided to them by the facility. This grant is no longer accepted at Sunrise for clients entering the program.  Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day At the City Council meeting on May 10, 2018, a proclamation will be read. Ms. Macht and Ms. Roth volunteered to present the proclamation.  Budget Report At the council meeting on Monday, April 23, the budget will be approved. STAFF REPORT  Ms. Vincent spent the day participating on an interview panel for the CSB in their search for a new executive director. By car, enter the City Hall parking lot off Little Falls Street and head downhill on the west side of the Community Center. Pass the trash enclosure, turn right and head uphill to the basketball court and the main entrance to the house. On foot or by bike, you can also enter by walking along the brick path from Great Falls Street and going to the back of the house.
