MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: May 17, 2018 PLACE OF MEETING: Gage House MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY Nicole Newman: at 6:32 p.m. THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff: Craig Cheney (chair) Sue Richter Alisa Macht Nancy Vincent Nicole Newnam City Council Liaison Anne Norloff Marybeth Connelly Debra Roth Student Representative Tahaseen Shaik APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from April 19, 2018 were approved. OLD BUSINESS:  Affordable Housing Policy revision Ms. Macht attended the Affordable Housing Policy Workgroup meeting. One issue discussed was a definition for affordable housing. The City Council would like a letter giving an affordable housing recommendation for what to include in the second phase of the proposal process for the Mason property development.  Healthy Eating Active Living initiative The City of Falls Church was featured in the newsletter of the Institute for Public Health Innovation for its work on the HEAL initiative.  Miller House Project update The grading plan process for the Miller House group home is proceeding. Community Residences, the service provider, is having difficulty identifying clients because of a lack of City residents with a Medicaid waiver. The Community Services Board is working with them. NEW BUSINESS:  Approval of FY 2019 Rent Relief Ms. Richter presented information for approval of six Rent Relief applications. All were unanimously approved. Also, $40,000 in additional Property Tax Relief was approved by City Council. A workgroup will be convened and Ms. Macht expressed interest in participating.Autonomous Vehicle Ms. Roth reported that she attended a presentation about autonomous transportation which could have opportunities for people with disabilities. STAFF REPORT  The regional contract with the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic is being renewed.  The Environmental Chapter of the City’s Comprehensive Plan is being updated. HSAC will be asked to provide input.  The Housing Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan is also in the process of being updated. The community will be asked for input in late summer.
