MINUTES Joint Meeting Human Services Advisory Council and Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Transportation City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church residents. DATE OF MEETING: August 16, 2018 PLACE OF MEETING: Gage House MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY Nicole Newman: at 7:03 p.m. THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff: Craig Cheney Nancy Vincent Alisa Macht City Council Liaison Nicole Newnam (chair) Marybeth Connelly Anne Norloff Student Representative Tahaseen Shaik APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from July 19, 2018 were approved. OLD BUSINESS:  Affordable Housing Policy revision In order clarify legal issues, the presentation by the Affordable Housing Policy Workgroup to City Council of the draft Policy revision has been postponed to September 4. Mr. Cheney chairs the group and will be making the presentation.  Miller House project update Ms. Vincent will travel to Richmond to meet with the Deputy Commissioner at the Virginia Department of Behavioral and Developmental Services to inquire about the possibility of Medicaid Waivers being dedicated to Falls Church residents who could be served by the Miller House. Ms. Macht suggested inviting a resident to speak to the group about intellectual disabilities.  Recommendations from the joint HSAC/Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Transportation HSAC members approved a set of recommendations dealing with transportation that came out of a joint meeting with CACT. Those recommendations will be considered by CACT at their upcoming meeting and, once approved by that group, will be forwarded to City Council. STAFF REPORT:  Ms. Vincent reported that she will be attending a workshop on the opioid crisis.  Ms. Connelly reported that the City Council approved a Resolution declaring Falls Church to be a Welcoming City for immigrants and refugees who bring fresh perspectives to businesses and schools and to celebrate the area's increasingly rich cultural fabric. Pass the trash enclosure, turn right and head uphill to the basketball court and the main entrance to the house. On foot or by bike, you can also enter by walking along the brick path from Great Falls Street and going to the back of the house.
