PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise the City Council on human services delivery to Falls
Church citizens.

APPROVAL of MINUTES: The minutes from the June 16, 2022 meeting were approved.
NEW BUSINESS:
Amazon 2 Homeownership Program-UPDATE – Kayleen Mark, Housing Specialist
• K Mark – the development has been approved, NHP is looking into the process and
procedure for next steps. NHP is meeting with construction, finance, and asset teams
• They are meeting on 7/22 and will have more information after.
VRRP Rental Relief Program Ending - Kayleen Mark, Housing Specialist
• Rent relief has ended; law expired, from 7/1 now landlords can give 5 day notice to pay
rent
• Kayleen and Leslyn worked with several clients needing rent relief. Several landlords did
not do their end of the paperwork for their tenants.
• Debra asked Kayleen about rats in Merrill House. HHS was not aware that this was an
issue but will look into it.
• Ripal commented that HHS leaves notices of the services provided to them on a regular
basis. Many tenants are not willing to speak up on issues because they are worried about
being evicted.
• Debra asked which properties had tenants facing evictions? Kayleen said the Fields and
Falls Green.
Human Services Intern Introduction – Ethan Puc, Intern
• Ethan is a student at American University studying International Affairs, has been with
HHS for the past month
• Worked on various projects with department and the Housing Specialist Kayleen and
Human Services Specialist Leslyn
Recruitment of HSAC & Community Services Board (CSB) Member – Nicole Newman
• Currently down 1 position on HSAC, spreading word to community
• The Commission wanted clarification on whether the state legislation to allow non-
citizens serving on town/city advisory councils/commissions was passed. It was not.
August meeting is Cancelled/Rescheduling of September Meeting – Nicole Newman
• August meeting is cancelled to allow for members to go on vacation
Other
• Adding in charts and grantee information into the HSAC annual report
• Nicole asked to include items in report such as SNAP benefits at the Farmers Market to
highlight human services initiatives, asked council to think of any other initiatives that
can be included in annual report
Staff Report
• Nothing for staff to currently report; Dana will reach out to Commission in regards to
non-citizens serving on commissions
