MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise the City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: Sept 15, 2022 PLACE OF MEETING: In Person (Laurel Room) w/ Virtual Option MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY Debra Z. Roth Community Services Board Staff: Claudia Volk Brenden Woodley Guests: Kayleen Mark Maria Markus Ripal Patel Jon Ward (virtual) Marybeth Connelly (City Council Liaison, virtual) APPROVAL of Agenda: The agenda was approved. APPROVAL of MINUTES: The minutes from the July 21, 2022 meeting were approved. NEW BUSINESS: Energy Efficiency Assistance – Jon Ward • Jon discussed the Environmental sustainability council. He mentioned possibly including energy efficiency measures in the Virginia Village project to get reduced rates with great energy savings. • Jon asked how confident HHS was that the citizens are aware of the energy savings measures and if we decide to notify, is there interest in outreach, Ripal responded that if materials are provided, this can be done. • Brenden asked if renters or homeowners would benefit more from energy savings measures. Jon noted it is mostly Homeowners, or renters with landlord permission. • Deborah requested an update next month from Ripal and Jon. Welcoming Falls Church UPDATE – Paul Boesen • Paul unable to attend. He left information. Housing Program-UPDATE – Kayleen Mark, Housing Specialist  • Kayleen discussed updates for the ADU program. • Kayleen discussed the Amazon 2 Homeownership program. Launch of program to be launched in the next 2-3 weeks. • Kayleen discussed the Amazon 3 Virginia Village program. VA Legislation for Commission Representatives – Citizenship – Ripal Patel • Ripal discussed question from last meeting regarding whether non-citizens can join the commission, He shared an update that we will bring this forward to the legislature again as it did not pass. Cindy Mester is liaison. Community Services Board Update – Claudia Volk, City of Falls Church, CSB REP • Claudia has yet to attend a board meeting. Discussed CSB website and budget limitations. Recruitment of HSAC & Community Services Board (CSB) Member – • Maria expressed interest in joining the HSAC. HSAC Annual Report for Council – Nicole Newman • Nicole not available. Ripal provided an update. The group asked HHS to put bullets together of highlights. A HSAC member will present to the council.
