PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise the City Council on human services delivery to Falls
Church residents.

APPROVAL TO ADOPT THE AGENDA: The agenda for this meeting was adopted.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from the October 19, 2023 meeting were approved
with three edits under the annual election agenda item.
NEW BUSINESS:
Community Service Fund Application review and Recommendations - Staff Ripal Patel and
Chair Deb Roth facilitated the discussion on suggested funding amounts. The Student Liaisons
went first. There was a robust discussion. The Commission decided to only give the amount
available. There will not be an additional ask of funds for FY25. The group also recommended
adding 3 questions for the FY 26 application
• How many clients does your organization serve?
• How much finding from other sources?
• Do you serve residents in the City of Falls church?

NEW BUSINESS:
• Chair Roth and Commissioner Person shared that they attended the Council planning
retreat. They spoke and shared the HSAC suggested priorities and statement. Council
workplan will be finalized in March.
• Senator Saddam Salim will be attending an HSAC meeting. Chair Roth invited him. The
Commission will use the next meeting to come up with items and an agenda that all agree
to discuss with the Senator. Cindy Mester the City legislative liaison will also be invited
along with the Mayor. We will not use this as an opportunity to lobby.
• Future commission speakers with be the new Police Chief and HHS Housing staff.
OTHER – Staff Patel discussed the Community Services Fund application and timeline.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:54 p.m.

2024. All comments will be provided to the HSAC members and comments received by the
deadline will be read during the meeting.
