April 5, 2017
1. Call to Order
Steve Selby called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Members present were Leslie Rye,
Planning Commission Representative Lindy Hockenberry, and School Board Representative
Justin Castillo. Staff members present were Danny Schlitt, Director of Recreation & Parks and
Keke Sidik.
2. Receipt of Public Petitions and Board Member Petitions
- Jon Ward, a community member of the City’s Environmental Sustainability Council,
presented on the City’s upcoming “Solarize” campaign for residential and
commercial rooftop solar panels.
- Program starts in two weeks and runs for 10 weeks (mid-April to mid-June).
3. Minutes
Leslie Rye motioned to approve the March Minutes. Lindy Hockenberry seconded the
motion. The motion was approved.
4. Recreation Director’s Report
Danny Schlitt presented the Director’s Report:
- Steve Selby: Welcome Justin Castillo.
- Danny introduced Board Members and Staff.
- Teen Program Supervisor will be on extended leave due to health issues and rest of
staff have come together to perform various parts of her programs/duties while she is
out.
- Upcoming events: AAUW Book Sale, Spring Break Camps, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.
- Summer Brochure has been sent out.
- Madison Park in full use for soccer.
- Discussed the need to turf Larry Graves; updated new members on the discussions up
to this point.
- Discussed operating and CIP budget.
5. New Business
a) Crossman Park stormwater project update (Jason Widstrom)
- Jason Widstrom presented on the Harrison Branch Project.
- Project has stream and sewer component.
- Discussed logistics, budget, expected timeline, impact, etc.
- Shared comments/feedback received from others.
- Board offered questions/feedback and discussed the project.
6. Old Business
a) Park project updates
- Danny discussed Cherry Hill Park playground project: gained more positive feedback
from neighbors; updated Board on status of the ongoing work; will focus on the
playground without changing integrity of park.
- Board discussed funding, ADA accessibility.
- Danny discussed Big Chimney’s project: logistics, timeline, budget, amenities, and
water features.
- Danny discussed finishing up the last pieces of Howard E. Herman project.
b) Operating and CIP budgets
- Discussed what’s been included in the CIP budget and what hasn’t been.
- Discussed Larry Graves budget.
- Discussed reallocation of funds.
c) No smoking in our parks (Carly Roberson)
- Have requested that Carly Roberson research other social programs; was unable to
make meeting today.
- Discussed plan to start a social conscious program; Student Representative will work
on the project.
8. Adjournment
Lindy Hockenberry motioned to adjourn the meeting and Leslie Rye seconded the
motion. Under unanimous vote, meeting adjourned at 8:30PM.
