MINUTES REGULAR MEETING OF THE ADVISORY BOARD OF RECREATION AND PARKS FALLS CHURCH COMMUNITY CENTER, KENNETH R. BURNETT BUILDING, 223 LITTLE FALLS STREET, FALLS CHURCH, VIRGINIA 22046 February 5, 2020. 7:00 P.M. 1. Call To Order Charley O’Hara called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Members present were Charley O’Hara, Leslie Rye, Kathy Chandler, Bill Brew, City Council Liaison Letty Hardi, and Planning Commission representative, Melissa Teates. Student Representative Emma Roncoroni was also present. Danny Schlitt, Director Recreation & Parks was present. 2. Receipt of Public Petitions and Board Member Petitions - None 3. Minutes for Approval: January 8, 2020. Changes to the minutes include adding attendees Motion to approve the minutes as amended by Bill Brew, seconded by Leslie Rye. All approved. 4. Recreation Directors Report  Soccer and summer camp registration are underway.  Hired a new Program Supervisor, Ryan Amato, beginning March 2.  Still recruiting for Preschool Teacher and Senior Administrative Assistant  A contact list of board members will be distributed once a school board representative is appointed.  Discussion on non-profit Beer Garden recipient’s application. Board prefers qualified candidates be drawn randomly.  West End Park gas regulator – will be underground with a few aboveground cabinets/boxes. Danny is working to ensure the pavers are replaced with pavers and not asphalt. Staff members working on this project will attend next month’s meeting.  Draft copy of MOU is moving along and moving to FCCPS and City attorneys soon. 5. Old Business A. 1. Park Project Updates – Big Chimneys – Underground work is underway but slow moving. We are waiting for budget transfers before signing the construction contract. Play equipment should be installed in May/June. Plantings will be done in conjunction with construction. 2. Fellows Property – letter went out to about 120 neighbors surrounding the property. Expect the first master-planning meeting in April. Letter did state that space might be used for library parking in the interim. Grand Marshall vote will not be done at the same meeting as the Fellows Property Planning. Consider holding one of the planning meetings for Fellows at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School to encourage more participation. B. School project update – none at this time C. EDA Wayfinding meeting – March 3rd. Recommendations on gateway signs, color scheme and listing of what landmarks will be included. D. No smoking campaign – share again on social media and follow up on legislation. 6.
