City of Fountain Valley Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities MINUTES March 4, 2021 1.CALL TO ORDER Chair John Borack called the March 4, 2021 Regular Meeting for the Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities to order at 6:11 p.m. 2. CITY COUNCIL – WELCOME/GREETING City Councilmember Liaison Kim Constantine thanked past, current, and new members for their work with the Advisory Committee. She also stated that all are welcome to join the Committee. I. Administration of Oath – New Committee Members - Scott Quinlan and Nora Webb were sworn in to become official members of the Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities 3. INTRODUCTIONS/ROLL CALL Members Present: John Borack, Philip Nisco, Gary Osterbach, Leonard Santoro, Susanne Seiden, Scott Quinlan, Nora Webb, and Jan Werts Members Absent: Herman Ajamian, Kayla Borack, Leonard Santoro, and Ramón Gálvez-Arango Staff Present: Yvette E. Aguilar, Community Services Manager, City Liaison Neda Alikhani, Recreation Specialist Councilmembers Present: Kim Constantine Public: Debbie Paul and Bob Hag 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM January 7, 2021 Audit of January minutes included amending minutes to reflect January 2021 and not January 2020 as stated for date of last meeting.  Committee Member Santoro moves to approve Meeting Minutes from January 7, 2021 with corrections; Motion seconded by Vice Chair Susanne Seiden. Motion carried 6-0, with 2 abstaining to vote, by Nora Webb and Scott Quinlan. 5. OLD BUSINESS A. Social Media Campaign – Spotlight Series – Community Service Manager Yvette Aguilar shared a brief overview of the program and gave thanks to the January and February and March Spotlight Series participants. Aguilar requested all Committee members share the Series on their own social channels. a. January 2021 – Rachel Osterbach - Community Service Manager Yvette Aguilar gave thanks to the January Spotlight Series participant. b. February 2021 – Dean Beckett - Community Service Manager Yvette Aguilar gave thanks to the February Spotlight Series participant. c. March 2021 – Terry Coakley - Vice Chair Seiden reported that nominee Coakley does not want to record a video for the Spotlight Series and requested the photo of her to be the same as the 2009 Fountain Living Magaine. d. April/May/June Recommendations – Community Service Manager Yvette Aguilar asked Committee to nominate someone that has been instrumental within the Fountain Valley community. Vice Chair Seiden nominated Committee Member Kayla Borack. Chair Borack nominates Committee Member Nora Webb. B. Disability Friendly Business Awards - Committee Member Phil Nisco asked if City Council meetings are open to the public and if awards discussion should be pushed until April or later. City Council Liaison Kim Constantine assured the Advisory Committee that City Council meetings are open to the public. Chair Borack states that awards can happen if recipients feel comfortable attending ceremony, no date was booked. Chair Borack reminds committee that they can nominate businesses and people within the community and don’t need supervisors’ approval, but does think supervisors should know if one of their staff members are nominated. Community Service Manager Yvette Aguilar will send Advisory Committee Members a copy of the current nomination form. Committee Member Nisco states there is no limit on nominees and that certificates can be given in place of a plaque if necessary. 6. NEW BUSINESS A. Update on Virtual Zoom Dance – Friday, February 5, 2021 - Chair Borack report that the Valentines themed dance was the most popular virtual event to date. With numerous song requests, festive attire, and a roaring chat box this event was reported as a success. B. Upcoming Virtual Zoom Dance – Friday, April 9, Spring Formal – Chair Borack reports thirty registrations so far and hopes another reminder is sent out as date gets closer. Chair Borack request City Council Liaison Kim Constantine share dance information with her collages in hope to have another City Council C. Discussion about Dance Calendar/Other Recreational Programming Opportunities 7. PUBLIC COMMENTS No comments. 8. COMMITTEE COMMENTS Chair Borack thanked new and past members and asked Community Service Manager Yvette Aguilar to connect with new Committee Member Richard King to swear him in. 9. Adjourn to May 6, 2021 The Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities has been tasked with:  Assisting City departments in implementation of guidelines for accessible facilities;  Facilitating development of recreational programs useable by persons with disabilities;  Obtaining information concerning special recreation equipment;  Facilitating development of barrier-free buildings and facilities within the city;  Working with various levels of education on the development & implementation of programs to assure maximum integration for students with disabilities;  Developing community awareness of employment potentials of persons with disabilities.
