City of Fountain Valley Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities MINUTES November 4, 2021 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair John Borack called the November 4, 2021 Regular Meeting for the Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities to order at 6:11 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL/INTRODUCTIONS Members Present: John Borack, Kayla Borack, Philip Nisco, Susanne Seiden, Nora Webb, and Jan Werts Members Absent: Ramón Gálvez-Arango, Leonard Santoro, Scott Quinlan, Richard King, Herman Ajamian City Staff Present: City Liaison Jenni Worsham, Community Services Manager Neda Alikhani, Recreation Specialist Councilmembers Present: Kim Constantine Public Present: Bob and Debbie Paul 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES • Motion to approve meeting minutes from September 2, 2021, with corrections moved by Committee Member Susanne Seiden, and seconded by Committee Member Phillip Nisco. Motion approved 6-0. 4. OLD BUSINESS A. Disability Friendly Business Awards Recap: Phil Nisco – Committee Member Philip Nisco discussed the successful awards program and ceremony. With a suggestion from Committee Member Kayla Borack, the Board agreed to update the online awards application and make the PDF fillable. B. Social Media Campaign: Spotlight Series a. The Spotlight Series will be posted in January, April, July, and October b. To be recognized January 2022 - Terry Coakley April 2022 - Committee Member Scott Quinlan July 2022 - Committee Member Kayla Borack 5. NEW BUSINESS A. Dances a. Update on Virtual Zoom Dance – Friday, October 29, Halloween theme - A successful event with more than 20 in attendance. b. Next Dance Date – Friday, December 17, 2021 (Virtual) Motion to change the dance date from December 3 to December 17 moved by Committee Member Kayla Borack, and seconded by Committee Member Nora Webb. Motion approved 5-1. c. Future Dance Calendar – Committee Members agreed to revisit in-person dances at the January 2022 meeting. B. “Public Path of Travel” Update- No report was presented. As discussions continue with Code Enforcement, this topic is tabled to a future meeting. C. Other Recreational Programming Opportunities - Committee Member Kayla Borack suggested cross-promotion for inclusion at existing community events. With city buildings meeting ADA requirements, Chair John Borack suggested posting “fully accessible” on social media event promotion flyers, which could lead to more inclusive events. 6. PUBLIC COMMENTS • Community member Bob Paul requested a drop off area at events hosted at the Recreation Center. • Community member Debbie Paul requested an increase of the rapid tick volume at the crosswalk on Brookhurst St. between Talbert Ave. and Ellis Ave. 7. COMMITTEE COMMENTS / ITEMS FOR FUTURE CONSIDERATION • Vice Chair Susanne Seiden praised city officials’ timely response to a complaint made about a hazardous tree branch blocking a residential sidewalk. • Community Services Manager Jenni Worsham recommended additional “path of travel” hazards or any other issues be reported to her for a timely response. 9.
