City of Fountain Valley Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities MINUTES May 5, 2022 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair John Borack called the May 5, 2022 regular meeting for the Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities to order at 6:05 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL/INTRODUCTIONS Members Present: Herman Ajamian, John Borack, Leonard Santoro, Susanne Seiden, Scott Quinlan, Philip Nisco, Nora Webb, and Jan Werts. Members Absent: Kayla Borack, Ramón Gálvez-Arango, Richard King. Staff Present: City Liaison, Ben Dieterle, Community Services Supervisor Natalie Nunez, Recreation Leader Council members Present: None. Public: None. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM March 3, 2022 • Motion to approve meeting minutes made with corrections from March 3, 2022 brought 1st by Committee Member Philip, 2nd by Committee Member Susanne. Motion approved 8-0. 4. OLD BUSINESS A. Social Media Campaign – Spotlight Series a. Quarterly in months of January, April, July, October- Ben Dieterle, Community Services Supervisor, reported that Spotlight Series updates are posted on the City website. b. To be recognized: October - Committee Member Herman Ajamian c. Future Recommendations- January 2023 Spotlight feature will be decided at a future meeting. B. Awards Program a. Marketing Updates – Ben Dieterle, Community Services Supervisor New marketing pieces are complete. Nomination flyer online is added to our website and downloadable. Committee Member, Kayla Borack, will send out  social media post to advertise. Deadline is August 26th. Scheduled presentation is October 4th. b. Program Kickoff ⁃ Conversation was had on best way to disseminate the information about the awards program, which included encouraging people to fill out the form online and posting about the awards program on the community forum on Facebook. 5. NEW BUSINESS A. Dances a. Update on In-Person Dance – Friday, April 1, 2022, Spring theme. i. First “in person” dance in 2 years with an unknown attendance estimated to be around 67 people. Dance followed all CDC guidelines with no complaints. All guests were excited for the raffle and decorations. ii. Chair, John Borack, expressed concerns about Access pick-up for guests. Pick-ups were scheduled for 9:00p.m., but were not picked up until 10:15p.m. Committee Member, Nora Webb, stated they need to have a supervisor from Access present for pick-ups. iii. Committee Member, Nora Webb, relays message from community services manager, Jenni Worsham, about verbally abusive woman. Woman made aggressive and inappropriate comments towards both board members and city staff. She left on her own accord. Chair, John Borack, instructed that if any issues persisted to request that she leaves or to call the police. iv. Ben Dieterle reported for Jenni Worsham that there are some snacks & drinks left from last dance but will buy more & be ready for at least 100 in attendance. Room setup will be adjusted to accommodate larger dance floor. b. Next Dance Date – Friday, June 10, 2022, Prom theme. c. Future Dance Calendar – determine themes of August & October dance. i. August Dance: Luau/ Summer Fun Theme. ii. October Dance: Halloween Theme with costume contest. B. City updates – No updates C. Other Recreational Programming opportunities – • Autism group was invited to Egg Hunt but was not available. Will continue to be invited to future events and are excited to participate. Committee Member, Nora Webb, questioned if this is the same group that hosts the Autism Prom dance and would like to get involved with them more. • Chair, John Borack, shared that the playground at the Recreation center will be done in September. Committee Member, Nora Webb would like the community to get involved with the playground reveal. Chair, John Borack,  says he will reach out to Matt Taylor. He specified there is not a specific date set yet for the reveal. 6. PUBLIC COMMENTS • No comment. 7. COMMITTEE COMMENTS / Items for Future Consideration • Committee Member, Susanne Seiden, discussed the concern for the new Slater freeway overpass being 4 feet steeper than the previous overpass. People were already having difficulties getting over the bridge in wheelchairs and now it is even a bigger concern. She is wondering if this is a Cal Trans issue. 8.
