December 17, 2012
Board Member Larry Jirsak called the meeting to order at 4:07 p.m. in the library board room
with the following members present: Larry Jirsak, Connie Schmeichel, and Jan Therien. Also
present was Director Janet Davenport. Board Members absent: Janet Jelkin and Jenice Wolfe.
The meeting was preceded by publicized notice in the Fremont Tribune and Radio KHUB and
the agenda displayed in the municipal building, the Keene Memorial Library, online at
www.fremontne.gov/library and distributed and emailed to the Library Board members on
December 12, 2012 and is open to the public. A copy of the open meeting law is posted
continually for public inspection and is located near the entrance to the Board Room.
Board Member Therien moved to approve the minutes of the regular meetings on September 17,
October 15 and November 19, 2012. Board Member Schmeichel seconded the motion. Carried.
Unfinished Business – Keno Matching Grant Program – the City is again offering Keno
Matching Grants to community support organizations. The new applications were due
December 1. The Friends of the Keene Memorial Library working in conjunction with Ms.
Davenport have requested $5,000 in Keno funds to be matched with an equal amount from the
Friends. The project will fund replacement of adult furnishings targeting the soft seating in the
library. The Council awarded the grant to the Friends of the Library at their meeting on
December 11, 2012.
Prime Time Family Reading Time – Dates have been set for Print Time on Saturdays in April
and May. A story teller and facilitator have been identified. Valeria Marquez, a
paraprofessional at Milliken Park Elementary School and Ricardo Garcia from UNL, who is an
experienced Prime Time presenter will work with us.
Library Presentation to City Council – Ms. Davenport showed the Board the presentation she had
prepared for City Council on November 20, 2012. She reported the City Council seemed to
enjoy the report and asked questions about library services and the number of computers we have
on hand.
New Business – Library Director’s Goals for the Library – Ms. Davenport shared a list of goals
she had developed for the City Administrator in September at his request. The Board discussed
several of them, made additional suggestions for events and activities that would heighten Keene
Memorial Library’s visibility in the community.
Reports - Director’s Report: Ms. Davenport will send a written report to Board Members. Ms.
Davenport indicated that Jan Jelkin had communicated to her that she was resigning the Library
Board due to demands from other commitments. Mr. Jirsak asked about plans to attend the
Nebraska Library Association’s Advocacy Day. Ms. Davenport is attending and Mr. Jirsak
would like to attend as well. Ms. Davenport will make arrangements.

With no further business, Board Member Schmeichel made a motion to adjourn, Board Member
Therien seconded, carried. Meeting was adjourned at 5:03p.m.

Agenda posted and kept continually current at the Municipal Building, Fremont Police Station,
Dodge County Courthouse and Keene Memorial Library, and emailed to Library Board members
on December 12, 2012. The Library Board reserves the right to go into Executive Session at any
time. A Copy of the Open Meeting Law is posted in the Board Room.
