MINUTES OF PARKS & RECREATION BOARD MEETING Tuesday, November 3rd, 2017 7:00 pm – Meeting Room of City Auditorium - 925 N Broad ST PRESENT: Bob Brown, Dan Moran, Dian Christensen Hillis, Wendy Eairleywine, Connie Giese, Kim Koski, Tammy McKeighan, Brian Newton, Steve Landholm, Don Cunningham, Nate Schwanke. 1. Call to Order – Meeting convened at 7:00 pm. The agenda displayed at City Hall, 400 E Military and was distributed to the Mayor, City Council and the Park Board, on November, 3rd 2017 and is open to the public. The open meeting law is posted continually for public inspection. 2. Roll Call – 5 present. Prince absent. 3. Reading of the Park & Recreation Board Minutes – Motion was made by Giese, seconded by Moran to dispense with reading of the minutes and approve as presented. Motion carried 5-0. 4. Consider request to waive fees for Post Prom Event – Motion was made by Giese, seconded by Eairleywine to waive the fees for the Post Prom Event. Motion carried 5-0. 5. Consider plan to design/recreate fountain in JCF Park – Don Cunningham presented to the board his idea to rebuild the Fountain in John C. Fremont Park. Originally was an idea in 2007. Brown stated that that in 2007 there was a Band shelter in with the Idea and when that fell through the plans for the fountain were discontinued as well. Moran asked about upkeep and perpetual maintenance. Cunningham stated that some of the logistics were still in the planning phase and not quite figured out at this stage. Christensen Hillis motioned to allow Cunningham’s group the space to move forward with a conceptual design in order to get an idea for cost. Brown seconded. Motion carried 5-0. 6. Holiday Programming Discussion – Schwanke presented the Holiday Activities schedule. Motion was made by Christensen Hillis, seconded by Moran to move forward with Holiday Programming as scheduled. 7. Youth Baseball Discussion – Schwanke presented a proposal to change what is offered by Parks and Recreation when it comes to Summer Baseball and Softball. In an agreement with Nighthawks/Ladyhawks, the proposal states that the City will no longer offer summer programming for baseball or softball above the age of 6 and Nighthawks/Ladyhawks will no longer offer summer programming for baseball or softball under the age of 7. 8. Projects Update – Koski updated the Board on Projects being carried out by all Parks and Recreation entities (Park Shop, Forestry, Ridge Cemetery, etc.) 9. Recreation Report 10. Director’s Report 11. Next Meeting, Tuesday, January 2, 2018 12. Adjournment –Motion was made by Eairleywine, seconded by Moran to adjourn. Motion carried 5-0. The meeting adjourned at 7:39 pm. Respectfully submitted, Nate Schwanke, Recreation Superintendent I, the undersigned, the Secretary for the Parks and Recreation Department, Fremont, Nebraska, hereby certify that all of the subjects included in the attached proceedings were contained in the notice of said meeting of November 3rd, 2017 kept continually current and available for public inspection at the Parks & Recreation Office; that such subjects were contained in said notice for at least twenty four hours prior to said meeting; that the minutes of the Park Board of the Parks and Recreation Department, Fremont, Nebraska were in written form and available for public inspection prior to the next convened meeting of said body.
