Assistant Director of Parks Operations Rick Wieland gave a presentation
(Exhibit A) regarding the process for naming Frisco Parks and Trails. He began
with listing the members of the Parks Naming Committee and continued by
describing the process the committee follows when naming parks and trails. Mr.
Wieland concluded by presenting the Committee's recommendations for two (2)
trails and three (3) neighborhood parks. Mayor Jeff Cheney reminded Council of
the importance of capturing the stories behind the names of parks and trails and
recommended changing the committee's process to incorporate a deeper look
into the history of each area in order to incorporate the story into the naming of
the park or trail. After a brief discussion, Council was in agreement to request
that the Parks Naming Committee revisit their processes and their
recommendations and return with this item in a future Work Session.
