PRCRD Advisory Board – Meeting Minutes (September 12, 2022) I. Call to Order - 7:04 pm Board/Staff members present: Jason Wunsch, Amber Williams, Renee Potts, Sheree Ward, Darian Walker, Hugh Johnson, Jonathan Cox, and Jerry O’Connell. II. Pledge III. Public Comment Sherrill Stanley and Jo Ann Emery were in attendance. No comments from the public. IV. Active Adult Programs Update (O’Connell) Provided a brief overview of new programs for summer/fall along with registration numbers: Move Better Stay Active w/ Dr. Kelly Hobbs (66), Balance Made Simple (75), Active Adult Fun Golfers (12), Eat Smart, Live Strong (11), Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (21), Pizza in the Park social (25), National Hot Dog Day social (38), Potluck Bingo (25), Men’s Coffee (8-15 weekly). V. Fall Youth Sports Update (Cox) Youth sports registrations are up 14.7 percent compared to last fall. Over 1,400 have registered for soccer, the largest participation rate since athletics programs were introduced. Hugh Johnson asked about incentives for coaches. Renee Potts asked about coaching opportunities for college students. VI. Splash Pad Season Recap (Cox) The Splash Pad closed for the season on September 5th. The Splash Pad had 23,419 “visits.” Was able to have a successful season while being understaffed. VII. Project Updates a. Community Center North Design Development phase complete. Cost estimating and DD reconciliation is currently taking place. Construction document phase is expected to begin mid- September. Staff anticipates bidding the project in February 2023 – exact timing will depend on many external factors. Anticipate a 14 to 16 month construction period (weather permitting) once the NTP is issued. i. PARTF (Cox) The Fuquay-Varina Community Center North project scored number 4 out of 49 projects and was awarded the maximum grant amount of $500,000. b. Hilltop Needmore Town Park & Preserve Master Plan (Cox) CLH Design completed the draft master plan for the park. CLH will present the draft master plan at the October 10th PRCRD Advisory Board meeting (tentatively). c. Hidden Valley Greenway Design (Cox) In progress, working with consultants Kimley-Horn. Anticipates having design completed by late 2022 or early 2023. d. Alston Ridge Greenway Design (Cox) In progress, working with consultants Kimley-Horn. Anticipates having design completed by late 2022 or early 2023. e. Action Park Tennis Courts  Funding has been escalated to replace all four courts. Project award will be included on at an upcoming Town Board of Commissioners meeting for consideration. f. South Park Walking Track (Cox) Replace existing track. Project is out to bid. g. Falcon Park Dugouts (Cox) Anticipate construction to begin at the conclusion of the 2022 fall sports season. VIII. Upcoming Events (Cox) Added an additional concert in the fall (1) and spring (1). a. FM2FV – September 22, 2022 – Sleeping Booty b. CFV – September 29, 2022 – Chairmen of the Board c. CFV – Saturday, October 1, 2022 – 10AM-4PM Downtown d. FM2FV – October 6, 2022 – Smile e. Haunted Trail Event -October 15, 2022 - CHJEEP 5PM-9PM (Cox) Received large turnout of volunteers at initial planning meeting. Looking forward to a great event. Sheree Ward asked about flooding at the park from recent storms. Director Cox reported that areas that were impacted are being addressed, and the park will be ready for the event. f. FM2FV – October 20, 2022 – Jim Quick & Coastline IX. Next Meeting a. Monday, October 10, 2022, 7:00pm (Cox) Meeting will be held at the Clubhouse at Hilltop Needmore Town Park and Preserve. X. Staff Comments Renee Potts asked how residents can find the location of the Town’s greenways. Director Cox reported that the IT Department is actively working on GIS overlays. XI.
