REPRESENTATIVES: Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) - Leeseberg Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) - Angelou Angelou reported MORPC will meet next Thursday. Gahanna-Jefferson Board of Education - Metzbower City of Gahanna Page 4 City Council Meeting Minutes August 21, 2017 Metzbower reported they finalized the "Gahanna-Jefferson Schools: Vision, Mission, and Beliefs"; open to thoughts and any feedback; Middle School South had re-opening; happy new assistant superintendent, Jill Elliot. Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) - Renner Leeseberg reported in Renner's absence. Visit Gahanna will host a Certified Tourism Ambassador class this Thursday, August 24, at Kindred Beer; pleased to report that registration is closed, as the class is sold out; Visit Gahanna is currently making plans to host its third and final CTA class for this year sometime in October; more details will be available once a date is confirmed; to date, Visit Gahanna has mailed and distributed more than 7,500 Gahanna Visitor Guides to area businesses and potential visitors, in response to requests for visitor information about Gahanna; this includes 1,000+ Visitor Guides that were recently distributed to visitors at the Ohio State Fair; the staff is currently processing another 4,500+ requests for visitor information received from across the country; those guides are expected to be mailed out in the next week; last Friday, August 18, was “National Fajita Day”! Through its work relationship with WSYX6 and Fox28, Visit Gahanna was able to secure an on-air television interview for Alex Paredes of Mi Tradicion on “Good Day Columbus”; the segment, which aired prime time for TV - i.e., weekday morning between 6 and 9 a.m., drew extensive publicity for a signature Gahanna small business, both through the on air segment as well as via an online story featured on the “Good Day Columbus” website; on Saturday, Executive Director Laurie Jadwin attended a special meeting held at the Columbus Zoo with Congressman Pat Tiberi and a handful of other area tourism representatives; the purpose of the meeting, called “Tourism Talks,” was to discuss the economic impact of tourism on local, state and national levels, identify areas of a concern and need for the tourism industry both on a national level as well as in areas within the Congressman’s district, and further dialogue and connection between the Congressman and our respective areas. M. OFFICIAL REPORTS: Mayor Mayor reported they continue to meet with businesses; recent recognition that the City of Gahanna received from fDi Magazine, a division of Financial Times; fDi Magazine has an annual designation for American City of Gahanna Page 5 City Council Meeting Minutes August 21, 2017 Cities of the Future; this annual award program looks at a variety of categories that are related to attracting foreign direct investment; these categories include: Economic Potential, Business Friendliness, Human Capital and Lifestyle, Cost Effectiveness and Connectivity; happy to say that Gahanna received the following recognition: a) Top 10 Micro City for the Overall Category, b) Top 10 Micro City for the Connectivity Category, c) Top 6 Micro City for Human Capital and Lifestyle Category. City Attorney No report. N. COUNCIL COMMENT Metzbower congratulated Karen on her pitching at the Clippers game; thanked her for all that she does for the City. McGregor said she went salamander hunting; really neat experience; nice to know they are protecting this species and waterways are healthy; critters are surviving. Angelou said she attended Three Creeks Senior Living ribbon cutting; welcomed every table as new members of the City of Gahanna; Sr. Citizens Director should invite them to the Sr. Center; build the number of people in our community; asked administration to pass along this request; she'd be happy to go with them and welcome everyone. Leeseberg congratulated to Karen on pitching at the Clippers game; every time he attends MORPC he hears her name being recognized for all her efforts; thanked her for all she does for the City. Larick said he spent weekend in a hammock made out of a table cloth; sad note that graduate of Gahanna and active with schools and longtime diving coach, Peggy Auer recently passed away; long standing battle with cancer; her services to the City were highly commendable.
