CALL MEETING TO ORDER Miller, Chair called the July 8, 2020 meeting to order at 7:04pm, via Microsoft Teams due to the continuing COVID-19 emergency. Donna Simmons joined the meeting at 7:10p.m. B. ROLL CALL Present: 7 - Kevin McGinn, Jan Ross, Donna Simmons, Chrissy Kaminski, Scott Lofton, Ken Shepherd and Eric Miller Staff in attendance: Stephania Bernard-Ferrell, Director, and Pam Ripley, Office Coordinator. C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Ross stated that under section J, the sentence should read; Staff have created Camp Crates, which are camp activities in a box. Also, strike comments regarding Hops & Vines cancellation. Motion was made by Shepherd, seconded by Kaminski, to approve the minutes from the June 10, 2019 meeting with changes discussed. Motion carried by the following vote: * Due to technical issues, Simmons was unable to join the meeting until after this vote. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Ferrell shared the Director's Report for June 2020, report is attached. The Arboretum at Creekside planting has occurred. We are moving forward to get the Arboretum status. Twenty seven of the trees are tagged and identified as part of obtaining Arboretum status. Later, plaques will be placed at the trees. Hopefully there can be some type of event regarding the Arboretum in the fall. The basketball courts are back open. The first week of Rec Club and Camp crates were successful. Paddle Boats and Kayaks are doing well. Staff have created a water safety series that will continue to be posted on FaceBook. Golf is doing very well this year; the weather has been great. There are several drive-in series; drive-in Bingo, drive-in concerts, drive-in movies and possible other drive-in events. Simmons stated that at Gahanna Woods it is really easy to get turned around on the paths; could signage be added. Ferrell said that staff has discussed wayfinding and interpretive and educational signage for many of the parks. The Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation has provided some funding for trail signage. 2020-113 Director Rpt 7-2020 J. Gahanna Active Senior Advisory Committee NONE iii. Natural Resources Advisory Committee NONE K. POLL MEMBERS FOR COMMENT i. Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation Ross shared that the Foundation will begin selling the Support Gahanna Together t-shirts on their website soon. Ferrell shared that through the Foundation FunTrails paid for 150 t-shirts. The funds from the sale of the shirts will go for Community Outreach. ii. School District Update Lofton stated the Board decided that students will do three days on, two days off and flip flop the following week. This will be done as long as Franklin county stays at level three; if Franklin County goes to level four there will be distance learning. The start date has not been released yet. The new elementary is coming along; a lot of steel and masonry walls are up. The parking lot is being worked on. No decisions yet on fall sports. Shepherd asked if the two levy's and the Bond Issue were going to be combined where you vote for all three or none. Lofton said they will be combined into one vote. The Gahanna Schools website has posted You Tube videos regarding how the master facilities committee came up with the recommendation. There will be virtual coffees with the Superintendent. Sign ups available on the website. iii. Veteran's Advisory Committee NONE L.
