CALL MEETING TO ORDER Miller, Chair called the August 12, 2020 meeting to order at 7:07pm, via Microsoft Teams due to the continuing COVID-19 emergency. B. ROLL CALL Present: 7 - Kevin McGinn, Jan Ross, Donna Simmons, Chrissy Kaminski, Scott Lofton, Ken Shepherd and Eric Miller Staff in attendance: Alan Little, Projects Manager and Pam Ripley, Office Coordinator. C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Simmons, seconded by Kaminski, to approve the minutes from the July 8, 2020 meeting. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO THE AGENDA New Business: GSA Fees E. HEARING OF VISITORS City of Gahanna Page 1 Parks & Recreation Board Meeting Minutes August 12, 2020 None F. OLD BUSINESS None G. NEW BUSINESS i. GSA Fees Little explained that Gahanna Soccer Association is adapting to the current circumstances and are offering a camp style experience for players. They are reducing their fees to participants by 50%. We are requesting approval to reduce the fees we charge to GSA for field use and non-resident fees by 50%; to fall in line with their current fees. The reduction will stay in place as long as their fees are reduced. Motion was made by Kaminski, seconded by Shepherd, to approve a 50% reduction in the fees charged to Gahanna Soccer Association as long as GSA fees are reduced due to COVID-19. Motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7- McGinn, Ross, Simmons, Kaminski, Lofton, Shepherd and Miller H. CORRESPONDENCE AND ACTIONS None I. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Little shared the Director's Report attached to the packet. Little shared the following stats not included in the report: Boats (Kayaks and Paddle boats) YTD: 1305 rides (boat or kayak, 30 minute) $13,020 gross revenue. Avg YTD: 1569 rides $7,845 In 2020 increased fee to $10 per 30 minute ride; only booking 1 paddle boat and 3 kayaks per 30 minutes due to COVID cleaning requirements, thus the slight decrease in rides Drive-in events (includes all tickets sold to date, 3 more events in August) Total cars sold: 675 Total revenue: $6200 There was some discussion regarding the Supporting Gahanna Together Day - Sat. Sept. 5th. The link wasn't working for some members to order the t-shirts. Little will follow up with the Board regarding ordering and logistics for picking up the shirts. City of Gahanna Page 2 Parks & Recreation Board Meeting Minutes August 12, 2020 Little shared that on Creekside Island the Arboretum will have seven additional native species planted. There will be markers for each tree which will include the Latin name, the common name and information about the tree. There will also be a brochure for a self guided tour. 2020-128 Director Rpt 8-2020 J. COMMITTEE REPORTS i. Bicycle & Trail Advisory Committee (BTAC) None ii. Gahanna Active Senior Advisory Committee None iii. Natural Resources Advisory Committee None K. POLL MEMBERS FOR COMMENT Miller shared that the 5K in honor of his son was a virtual run that raised $9,550 for GRIN in the form of gift cards for new back to school shoes. Little shared that Ferrell had a baby girl and everyone is doing great. Simmons shared that her husband and daughter participated in the 100 mile Pelotonia race. i. Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation Ross shared the Foundation met virtually. There was discussion regarding the selling of the t-shirts and the Governance Committee is reviewing the By-Laws. ii. School District Update Lofton shared that the schools are following the direction of most of the Franklin County Districts; virtual school until the number of COVID cases start reducing. The construction continues on Lincoln Elementary. There was a topping off ceremony of the main beam. Students and teachers were able to sign the beam prior to install. There is one additional vote needed from the School Board in order to City of Gahanna Page 3 Parks & Recreation Board Meeting Minutes August 12, 2020 go on the ballot. This is a three part Levy; operating, bond issue and a permanent improvement as part of the bond issue. iii. Veteran's Advisory Committee None L.
