City of Galt AGENDA COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday, April 27, 2017 10:00am SPECIAL MEETING Chairperson: Alvin Roberts Commission: Bob Balliet, Marie Hall, Skip Roberts, Andrea Johnson 1. Call Meeting to Order 2. Roll Call: A. Roberts, M. Hall, S. Roberts (ABSENT), B. Balliet, A. Johnson Advisor: M. Lopez Guests: Pat McCormick and Cleo Moore from the Senior Club 3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. Cleo more asked for clarification as to what the City does for Galt Seniors. 4. Guest Speaker: 5. Acceptance of Minutes: March 23, 2017. No quorum for the March meeting. 6. Old Business A. Update on “Galt Resources Guide FY 2017/18” Alvin is working on this. Will bring info in May. B. City wide survey of needs of Seniors – 1st cut Alvin is working on this. Will bring info in May. C. Need for Commissioner Skip may be stepping down. D. Need for a Senior Center – status (create task force) Bob and Alvin will work on E. Status of fall FY 2017 Health/Information Fair would like to work with other organizations to plan future Fairs (possibly Shop Local, Strawberry Festival, etc). Want to also reach out to other organizations. Johnson may attend the Lodi event in May and ask to meet with the planners to get ideas. F. Press Releases – Status Remove from future agendas (Johnson/Hall). Herald is working with Bob to put stuff in the paper every other week. Bob hopes to get info on Senior Abuse to share in one of the May papers. G. Inform City about access is hard in several buildings – Mr. Solis will review to see if assist door are needed. Commission was informed that the City inspected the doors and all in question were in compliance. Some doors were adjusted to make easier to open. Bob and Guests still feel that the doors are hard to open. Bob may send a letter to Armando Solis to ask to discuss the issue further. H. Public website/Facebook/Newspaper City Clerk will help the Commissioners on this. I. Visit to Galt Senior Living Centers – Status Commission wants to start visiting the centers staring in June. 7. New Business a. Review Bylaws - Approved (Balliet/Hall).  b. Parks & Recreation Office and Chabolla Community Center door adjustments See above 8. COMMISSIONERS REPORTS/COMMENTS Alvin- Alvin is joining the CA Commission of Seniors. He will report back to the Commission after he receives information. Alvin also shared a copy of a news article from the Lodi News Sentinel regarding seniors in their community and how to start planning for them. Andrea – discussed her volunteering for Meals on Wheels. 9. Announcements: a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth Wednesday of each month. (www.sacramentoadultandaging.org/meetings.html) b. Galt Senior Club – 1pm Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo, 2nd bingo, 3rd pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & every Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo. c. Community Housing & Services Coalition Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month (Oct 25, 2016) location/time – 7000 65th St., Sacramento (Sac Sheriffs Florin Office Community Center). 10.
