CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Juliet Rodriguez, Youth Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:34 pm.

D. PRESENTATIONS: None
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Kevin Tonn Memorial 5K Run
Robin Nelson, event coordinator, presented a community service opportunity to the commission. On July
1st, from 6am-9am, the 5th annual Kevin Tonn Memorial 5K will be held and asked for the commission to
participate. She is looking for volunteers to help out at the event as well as advertise for it in return they
will give the commission 25% in profits.
A motion was made to support the event.

2. Dia de Los Libros de Los Ninos
Commissioner Yebra shared that five volunteers helped over 50 kids make newspaper hats at this event
held at the Marian O. Lawrence Library on May 27th from 9:30-2:30pm. The commissioners used supplies
that they already had and the newspapers were donated. She shared that the event went well. By focusing
on a specific craft, it allowed the commissioners to interact with the kids individually by showing them how
to make it and personalize their hats with decorations.
3. Youth Financial Literacy Workshop
Commissioner Hassey informed the commission that the workshop will be held on May 17th at Galt High
School.
4. Art Exhibit Update
A reflection of the event will be held at the next meeting.

Commissioner Cuevas shared that the volunteers served 150 breakfasts and made $700 for the John Moran
Scholarship Fund. There was no cost impacting the approved budget because all supplies were donated by
the Lions, the Rotary Club, and Cal Waste. The commissioners will be going to thank them at their
respective meetings.
6. John Moran Scholarship Update
Commissioner Cuevas shared only been six applications, three from Galt High and three from Liberty
Ranch, were submitted. The decision will be made by a panel of impartial adults. The awards will be
presented at the respective high schools awards nights on May 11th and 15th.
7. Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer’s Report will be provided at the next meeting.
8. GYC Retreat Budget
Adult Mentor Gordon overviewed a proposal submitted by Solh Resolutions International for the annual
retreat. Facilitator Rangineh Irani was introduced and shared her process for developing the retreat which
included working with a planning committee to determine outcomes and goals for this year’s retreat. She
answered questions from the commissioners.
A motion was made to approve the $1,000 budget proposal for the retreat.

A second motion was made to approve a food budget not to exceed $250.

9. Ice Cream Social
Adult mentor Gordon shared that adult mentor Klotz has offered her home for the annual ice cream social
and he will conduct a poll to decide on what day it should be held in May. The Ice Cream Social is an
opportunity for the incoming commissioners and their families to meet the existing commissioners and
adult mentors and learn about the expectations serving on the commission.
A motion was made to approve a budget not to exceed $100.

10. Strawberry Festival Fundraiser
Adult mentor Gordon shared that the commissioners will be operating the Lions Club Bingo booth on
Sunday, May,21st. The subcommittee recommended giving Spaan’s cookies to winners, which what was
done last year with success.
A motion was made to approve a budget not to exceed $250.

11. City Council Update
Council member Lampson presented this month’s City Council update. She shared that Galt’s wastewater
treatment plant can now provide water for 50,000 homes. Dutch Bros. is looking for a location in Galt and
Starbucks will be built in the empty spot next to McDonald’s.

12. Galt Herald Newspaper
Chair Rodriguez presented this month’s article about every 15 minutes at Liberty Ranch High School. The
highway patrol and traffic safety shared that every 15 minutes someone dies because of drunk driving. A
realistic demonstration using teens from Liberty to show the juniors and seniors the terrible effects of a car
crash due to drunk driving.
13. Approval of the minutes of 2/6/2017, 3/6/2017, and 4/6/2017
A motion was made to approve the February, 6th minutes with amendments.

A motion was made to approve the minutes for April, 3rd.
Moved: M.Muller Second: H.Hassey Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
The March 6th meeting minutes were tabled.
14. Future Agenda Items
Future agenda items include the Economic Development Survey Results and Art Exhibit Update.
15. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude
The commissioners and adult members gave gratitude to outgoing members Hassey, Gamez and Munoz.
Each reflected on their experience serving on the commission.
16. Year End Reflection
Through a PowerPoint presentation, Chair Rodriguez reviewed all of the events, activities, and
accomplishments from this year.
17. 2017/18 Galt Youth Commissioners
Adult Mentor Gordon presented Myracle Franco, Celio Gonzales, Cristian Gonzales and Daniel Trevizo as
new commissioners for next year. Each new member introduced themselves to the commission.
ADJOURNMENT: Youth Chair J. Rodriguez adjourned the meeting at 8:00P.M.
