COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION CONFERENCE ROOM

1. Call Meeting to Order – Chairperson Alvin Roberts called meeting to order at 10:05
AM. Alvin Roberts asked Bob Balliet to take the minutes.
NOTE: A quorum was present:
2. Roll Call: – Chairman Alvin Roberts, Commissioners Bob Balliet, Andrea Johnson,
Pennie Niemeyer; & Dir Armando Solis – for Monica Lopez. Commissioner Marie Hall
was not in attendance due to illness.
3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the
Audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any
Agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item.
Speakers shall restrict their comments to the issues that are within the subject
matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5)
minutes.
This statement was read by Chairman Alvin Roberts.
4. Guest Speaker(s): There were no Guest Speakers. Three members of the public
were present and were invited to participate in the discussions and asked for any of
their own issues, in accordance with the Public Comment policy mentioned above.
5. Acceptance of Minutes – Motion was made by Commissioner Bob and seconded by
Alivin Roberts to accept the Minutes of Oct 26, 2017. All voted in favor.
6. Old Business:
• Update about wheelchair access for several city buildings –
Commissioner Bob informed the Commission that the Letter to the Mayor was
forwarded to the City Clerk on Nov 15, 2017. The Consensus of the
Commission was that the subject matter be removed from ‘Old Business’
as it is now complete.
• Update on “Galt Resource Guide for 2018” Commissioner Bob informed the
Commission that the 200 Calendars had arrived and he turned them over to
Chairman Roberts. Reimbursement by the City for both orders has been made.
Consensus of the Commission was that this subject matter be removed
from ‘Old Business’ as it is now complete.
• City wide survey of needs of Seniors – Subject matter was discussed by the
Commission and Chairman Roberts indicated that he would continue to seek
outlets for participation in the Survey.
Press Releases – Commissioner Bob informed the Commission that SB 649, had
been vetoed by the Governor and no further action by the Commission was
necessary. The Consensus of the Commission was that the subject matter
be removed from ‘Old Business’ as it is now complete.
• Need for a Senior Center – This will be an ongoing effort (part of the 2018
Agenda) and periodic reports on the progress of this effort will be made to the
Commission.
• Public Website/Face book/Newspaper – Commissioner Bob informed the
Commission that the November article about Scams against the elderly was
published. The consensus of the Commission is that this matter be
removed from ‘Old Business’, as it is now complete.
• Visit to Galt Senior Living Centers – Chairman Alvin will continue his efforts,
with the help of Commissioner Andrea to schedule visits by Commission members
to the Galt Senior Living Centers and will attempt to have a committee put
together at the first of the Year, 2018.
7. New Business: Dir Solis informed the Commission of the upcoming Winter Bird
Festival on Jan 20, 2018 and thought it appropriate for the Commission to participate.
He also wanted to invite Mr Paul Banick as Guest Speaker to our December
Commission Meeting. The discussion was intense and the consensus of the Commission
was positive. Further discussions will be held at our next meeting.
Commission Reports/Comments: Chairman Roberts reported to the Commission about
his and Commissioner Bob’s attendance at “The Hummingbird Project” on Oct 31, 2017 at
the Aging Resources Exchange meeting in South Sacramento at the Sacramento Sheriff’s
Florin Office Community Center. Chairman Roberts indicated that our next regular
scheduled meeting will be Thursday, Dec 28, 2017 at 10:00 AM
8. Announcements:
a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth Wednesday of
each month. (www.sacramentoadultandaging.org/meetings.html)
b. Galt Senior Club – 1:00 PM Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo, 2nd
bingo, 3rd Pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & and every
Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo.
c. Community Housing & Services Coalition Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month.
Location: 7000 65 Street (Sacramento Sheriff’s Florin Office Community Center.
9. Adjournment: Commissioner Bob made a motion to adjourn. The motion was
seconded by Commissioner Andrea and it carried unanimously. Chairman Roberts
adjourned the meeting at 10:45 AM.
NOTE: Since the new Bi-laws have been approved by the City Council, per Dir Solis, our
10:00 AM meetings on the 4th Thursday of the month are now REGULAR MEETINS and the
Minutes will reflect that fact beginning with our December meeting.
Commissioner Bob also informed the Commission that he will distribute the minutes to all
Commission members, immediately after the Chairman okay’s them.
