Meeting Minutes, November 6, 2017
Meeting held in City Council Chambers
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Jesus Cuevas, Youth Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:00
P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Cross, Flores, Gordon, L. Klotz
Members Absent: Lampson
Youth Members Present: Cuevas, Franco, Celio Gonzalez, Cristian Gonzalez, Muller, Rodriguez,

C. PUBLIC COMMENT:
None
D. PRESENTATIONS:
Amie Mendes, Economic Development Manager, shared an economic development overview
and presented the results of the economic survey.
6:25 Trevizo arrived
Anita Radosevich, Career Ladders, presented certificates to the commissioners for attending
her workshop on October 23, 2017.
1. Approval of minutes
A motion was made to approve the October 2, 2017 minutes with amendments.

2. Treasurer’s Report
Commissioner Franco reviewed the funds in the Galt Youth Commission account. She shared
that the Galt Youth Commission total balance is $1,209.39.
3. Community Project: “It Can Wait” Campaign
Commissioner Yebra shared that Commissioner Cristian Gonzalez talked to Galt High School’s
principal, Mrs. Beck, and she talked to Liberty Ranch High School’s principal, Mr. Saramago. Galt
High School’s principal is really excited about the project. Liberty Ranch High School’s principal
is open to the idea and think that it’s really important, but he wants us to come up with a way
to convey the message without taking students out of class so we put Alice Perez in contact
with both of the principals so they can work out the logistics of the project and figure out what
works best for each school.
4. Community Project: Recycling Art Exhibit
Commissioner Celio Gonzalez shared that he gave a presentation at Galt High School about the
art exhibit and suggested ideas of artwork to the different departments. He also provided them
with information about the Galt Youth Commission, the art exhibit project, and background on
national events. Commissioner Rodriguez shared the subcommittee’s vision on what the art
exhibit could look like. She talked about how they wanted to have some artwork reflecting
what the world could look like if we take care of the world and some artwork reflecting what
the world could look like if we don’t take care of the world. Commissioner Cristian Gonzalez
told the Galt Youth Commission that they were taking a field trip to the California Science
Museum and Roseville Utility Center and invited commissioners to join and learn more about
environmental issues.
5. Community Project: Little Library Project
Commissioner Rodriguez shared that she talked to Mr. Farenelli at Liberty Ranch High School
about volunteers from the AG department to help build the boxes for the little library project.
The AG department offered to help build the boxes in December and in the meantime the
subcommittee is working on trying to figure out locations for the boxes.
6. Lessons of Leadership
Adult Mentor Klotz presented this month’s lesson of how to master the skill of selling your
idea. She shared that in order to sell your ideas to your audience you need to use good analysis,
have good planning, and show them why your idea is exciting and relevant.
7. ACA 10 – Assemblyman Low
Commissioners Celio Gonzalez and Cristian Gonzalez led a discussion on whether the Galt Youth
Commission should support the ACA 10. Due to lack of support, the item was dropped.
Chair Cuevas passed the gavel to Vice Chair Session and she presided over the meeting.
8. Lighting of the Night
No discussion due to lack of information.
9. Crafting with Santa
Adult Mentor Flores provided the commission with historical background on the event and
after some discussion, it was decided that the youth commission would not hold Crafting with
Santa this year.
Vice Chair Sessions passed the gavel back to Chair Cuevas and he presided over the meeting.
10. Galt Rotary Community Dinner
Adult Mentor informed the Galt Youth Commission about the Galt Rotary Community Dinner
and asked them to help by volunteering their time and finding other volunteers.
A motion was made to commit to participating in the Galt Rotary Dinner.

11. Editorial Board Update
Commissioners Cristian Gonzalez and Yebra shared that the articles for the month were about
Thanksgiving, the Dairy Bowl, the art exhibit field trip, the Little Free Library project, and the
monthly Man on the Street.
12. Galt Herald Newspaper
Commissioner Sessions shared an article about the Galt Kiwanis Festival that was sponsored by
the Valley High Key Club.
13. City Council Update
Council Member Lampson shared that the city council was looking for a new member since the
mayor resigned. She also suggested that the Little Library subcommittee talk to the council
about the project to see if they would be allowed to place the libraries on city property.

15. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude
Commissioner Cuevas commended his fellow commissioners for a good discussion on the ACA
10 proposal. Adult Mentor Gordon agreed with Commissioner Cuevas and stated that the
commissioners did a good job expressing their diverse views. Commissioner Rodriguez
suggested a Christmas team bonding activity such as Secret Santa. Adult Mentor Cross
commended the commissioners who attended the college career workshop and brought
friends. Adult Mentor Klotz congratulated commissioners Celio Gonzalez, Rodriguez and Klotz
for presenting this year’s art exhibit concept to teachers at both high school’s staff meetings
and also suggested doing a White Elephant at the next meeting as an ice breaker.
ADJOURNMENT: Youth Chair J. Cuevas adjourned the meeting at 8:19P.M.
