City of Galt MINUTES COMMISSION ON AGING 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA GALT PARKS & RECREATION OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM Thursday, Jul 28, 2018 10:00am Chairperson: Bob Balliet Commission: Alvin Roberts – Vice Chair, Marie Hall, Andrea Johnson, Pennie Niemeyer 1. Call Meeting to Order 10:00 AM Roll Call: B. Balliet, A. Roberts, M. Hall, A. Johnson, P Niemeyer Advisor: M. Lopez 2. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. Read by Bob Balliet 3. Acceptance of Minutes: Jun 26, 2018 meeting. Motion to accept: Marie Hall & seconded by Pennie Niemeyer - Accepted unanimously 4. Guest Speaker: Gabriel Kendall, Dir of Community Relations and Program Development, 2-1-1 Center, Sacramento. (1) Director Kendall made a thorough presentation to the Commission concerning the 2-1-1 Center and its operation, answering many questions and indicating a willingness to set up a tour of the Call Center off Folsom Blvd next month (August) and sending out invitation for members of the Commission to attend. (2) Several members of the public were also in attendance and participated in the discussions about the 2-1-1 center and other subject matters that were discussed and considered. 5. Old Business A. Visit to Galt Senior Living Centers – Alvin It was the consensus of the Commission that this Matter is suspended until after the 2019 Resource Calendars have been published. B. Senior Health Information Fair – Bob & Alvin will be getting in touch with the Lions Club to pursue that issue and report to the Commission in September. C. Wheel Chair Access – (Bob) – Will be discussed with Mayor & City Manager at a special meeting on Aug 30, 2018 and reported back to the Commission at the September Commission Meeting. 6. New Business Establishing a Senior Resources Center in Galt (Bob & Commission Members) (1) The Commission discussed the ‘Blue Print of the proposed Senior Resource Center at length and a motion was made by Bob to accept the proposed Blue Print, the motion was seconded by Pennie and passed unanimously. Bob  informed the Commission that a meeting about this matter has been scheduled for Aug 30, 2018, Mayor Heuer, City Manager Palazzo, City Clerk Settles and Parks & Recreation Dir Solis, to present them with this blue print and to seek their input and direct support. (2) Bob distributed, and the Commission discussed, the proposed Senior Resource Center announcement, seeking volunteers to staff it, to be published in the City’s News Flyer that is mailed to the residents of Galt in the next quarter edition. Alvin made a motion to accept the proposed announcement, Pennie seconded it and the proposed announcement was agreed to unanimously. Upon recommendation from Monica Lopez, Bob indicated that he would contact the City Clerk’s Office to ascertain the deadline for its submission. 7. COMMISSIONERS REPORTS/COMMENTS Bob submitted the Commission’s Annual Report to the City Council, for the Commission’s consideration and their input and approval. Both Andrea & Alvin recommended some helpful changes to its content. Bob assured them that those changes would be incorporated in the final Report. Motion was made by Alvin to accept the Report, as amended, Andrea seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously. The Report will be submitted to Dir Solis prior to the Aug 21, presentation, which will be presented by Bob. 8. Announcements: a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth Wednesday of each month. (www.sacramentoadultandaging.org/meetings.html) b. Galt Senior Club – 1pm Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo, 2nd bingo, 3rd pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & every Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo. c. Community Housing & Services Coalition Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month (May 29, 2018) location/time – 7000 65th St., Sacramento (Sac Sheriffs Florin Office Community Center). 9.
