City of Galt AGENDA COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday, Aug 23, 2018 10:00am Chairperson: Bob Balliet Commission: Alvin Roberts – Vice Chair, Marie Hall, Andrea Johnson, Pennie Niemeyer 1. Call Meeting to Order 2. Roll Call: B. Balliet, A. Roberts, M. Hall, A. Johnson, P Niemeyer Advisor: M. Lopez All Present. Also in attendance, Councilmember Tom Malson, Harlan Vandenbosch, Charilyn Conn and Pat McCormick. 3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. Charilyn – Shared that needed things are not being updated at the Comfrey apartments. Councilmember Malson suggested using the Galt Connect app, then contacting Don Notolli and Jim Cooper if not getting the help needed. Harlan shared with the Commission that Comfrey Apartments was having a snail problem and he used his own money to take care of the problem himself. Pat wanted to thank the Commission for all of the help that it has given to the Senior Club. 4. Acceptance of Minutes: Jul 26, 2018 meeting. Unanimously accepted (AR, PN) 5. Guest Speaker: None 6. Old Business A. Visit to Galt Senior Living Centers – Alvin/Andrea (Suspended until after the publication of the 2019 Resources Calendar) BB will be ordering end of September or by middle of October B. Senior Health Information Fair – Alvin/Bob update AR and AJ will be visiting a Lions Club meeting in hopes to partner with them on their upcoming Fair. PN would like to have the Commission concentrate on putting together a Fair for next August or September. This would be best for seniors who need to possibly make changes with their medical insurance and such. AR agreed with this plan. BB said that both Fairs could be done. C. Wheel Chair Access – (Bob) Update – Status question to be addressed at Aug 30 City Staff meeting. BB stated that a letter was sent to City Council, the Mayor and P&R Director regarding the Commission’s concerns with access to certain City buildings. It was mentioned that Chabolla has electric doors, City Hall has a button to open a set of doors, and that the P&R restrooms have had mechanisms installed to making the doors open easier. BB stated that there has not be a response to their most recent letter. BB will be meeting with the City Manager, the Mayor and P&R Director on August to discuss the possibility of a Senior Resource Center and he will bring up the letter at this time. He will remind them that a response to the letter is desired. He also stated that if the response is not favorable to the Commission, that it does not mean the issue will end at this time. M Lopez shared with the attendees that the buildings in question had been inspected by the building department and are all ADA compliant. AJ stated that ADA compliance may not be enough and that more may need to be done. Councilmember Malson suggested that the Commission ask where the ADA modifications may be included in the budget. 7. New Business (1) Establishing a Senior Resources Center in Galt - (Bob) Update – Meeting with City Staff scheduled for Aug 30, 2018; See above. Meeting to be held on August 30th with City officials. (2) Visit to 211 Center – (Bob) Update – hand out copies of Sacramento County Adult and Aging Commission about the Tour that took place on Aug 14, 2018. BB shared with the Commission the minutes from the Sacramento County Adult and Aging Commission. BB would also like to meet with Gabriel Kendall from 211 to help create an article that he would like placed in an October Galt Herald. (3) Senior Resource Calendars for 2019 – (Bob/Andrea) When to order and from which Provider. See above. 8. COMMISSIONERS REPORTS/COMMENTS Bob (1) Update on Annual Report to the City Council that took place on Aug 21, 2018 – Official Report to City Clerk by Parks & Recreation. BB and PN attended the meeting. BB gave the Commission’s presentation to City Council. He will also attend the next meeting to answer any possible questions. (2) Reminder of upcoming End of Terms for two Commissioners. Anyone whose term is ending this December should be submitting the proper paperwork to the Clerk’s office. 9. Announcements: a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth Wednesday of each month. (www.sacramentoadultandaging.org/meetings.html) b. Galt Senior Club – 1pm Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo, 2nd bingo, 3rd pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & every Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo. c. Community Housing & Services Coalition Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month (Oct 25, 2016) location/time – 7000 65th St., Sacramento (Sac Sheriffs Florin Office Community Center). 10.
