Special Meeting Minutes, September 10, 2018
Meeting held in City Community Room/City Hall Chambers
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Cristian Gonzalez, Chair, called the meeting to order at
6:00 P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Collier, Flores, Gordon, Klotz, Lampson
Adult Mentors Absent: Cross
Youth Members Present: Franco, Gonzalez, Martin, Ramos, Rivas, Rodriguez, Stalians, Trevizo,
Yebra
C. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
D. PRESENTATIONS: None
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker
The Commission did a rock paper scissors cheering game to ease into the start of the meeting.
2. Officer Elections
As Commissioner Gonzalez was selected as Chair and Commissioner Yebra was selected as
Fundraising Chair at the last meeting, the commission held an election to determine the
remaining officers. Commissioner Ramos was elected Vice Chair and Commissioner Rivas was
elected Secretary. Commissioner Franco was elected Treasurer and Commissioner Martin was
elected Publicity Chair. Commissioner Trevizo was elected Sergeant of Arms. The Commission
took action to approve all officers for the 2018/19 year.
Moved: A. Yebra Second: M. Franco Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
Commissioners moved from the Community Room to the City Hall Chambers. Chair Gonzalez
resumed the meeting.
3. Approval of minutes for the meeting of August 6, 2018
The Commission took action to approve the minutes.

4. Treasurer’s Report
Adult Mentor Gordon gave the treasurer’s report and share that there is $5,315.04 in the GYC account.
However, after subtracting the city council appropriation of $2,500, which are restricted funds, and
outstanding billing, the commission has $857.93 of unrestricted funds to use. The donation from
supporting the Kevin Tonn Run has not been received yet.
5. City Council Update
Councilmember Lampson presented this month’s city council update. The updates consisted of
the Starbucks still not being open and attending the League of Cities Conference. There have
been recent armed robberies at Burger King.
6. Lessons in Leadership
Adult Mentor Klotz presented this month’s lesson. Commission learned about the understanding
of communication styles and skills. They learned about the interactions with different people and
generational differences.
7. Community Project 2018/19
Chair Gonzalez facilitated a discussion to identify and adopt projects for the commission.
Commissioner Yebra will continue to do the “It Can Wait” Campaign and planning to do it in
February or April at Liberty High School. Commissioner Rodriguez plans to do the Random
Acts of Kindness Week and Pay it Forward. Chair Gonzalez would like to help and connect with
elders on topics such as technology and learning English as their second language.
Commissioner Martin would also like to help seniors with navigating technology. Commissioner
Ramos brought the ideas of helping families or students in need. Commissioner Stalians plans on
doing a seminar on fitness and health. Commissioner Rivas plans on doing a 40’s band event for
seniors.
The Commissioners were tasked with researching the ideas/issues and presenting them in depth
at the next meeting for consideration to approve as a community project.
8. Galt Herald Editorial Articles
Subcommittee members will report on upcoming editorial topics. Commissioner Yebra will work
on an art article, Commissioner Rivas will work on a Homecoming article, Commissioner Ramos
will work on a College Board article, and Commissioner Franco will work on a Sophomore
article.
9. Galt Herald Newspaper
Commissioner Martin presented this month’s article. The article was about the building of
outdoor classroom at the community garden for preschoolers. This will help make a difference as
youth will learn more the environment and its importance.
10. Strengths-Based Coaching
Adult Mentor Collier presented her proposal to integrate Gallup Strengths in our work. She
requested a budget not to exceed $200 to purchase assessments for the commissioners to take.

Commissioner Trevizo tells Chair Gonzalez good job for his first meeting. Commissioner Rodriguez had
an upcoming Art Show the weekend of the 15th and 16th. Adult Mentor Gordon shared that a new
commissioner will be selected and sworn in by the next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT: Chair Gonzalez adjourned the meeting at 8:04 PM.
