City of Galt MINUTES COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday - SCHEDULED May 23, 2019 10:00am Chairperson: Bob Balliet Commissioners: Alvin Roberts, Andrea Johnson, Pennie Niemeyer 1. Call Meeting to Order: Bob called meeting to order at 10:00AM 2. Roll Call: Bob Balliet, Alvin Roberts (absent), Andrea Johnson, Pennie Niemeyer, Marie Hall Advisor: Monica Lopez 3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. Bob read statement. 4. Acceptance of Minutes: Approve Minutes of Apr 25, 2019. Motion made by Pennie and seconded by Marie. Approved unanimously. 5. Guest Speaker: Mr Mike Selling – Public Works Director, City of Galt, will be addressing the Sewage Fee issue and answer questions that may arise. Bob informed Commission that Mr. Selling was unable to be here and asked to be rescheduled. 6. Old Business (a) Letter of Thanks to former Commissioner Marie P Hall for her service on the Commission. (Bob) Since Marie was reappointed to the Commission the Letter of Thanks matter is dropped. (b) Establishing a Senior Resource Center in Galt – (Bob) continued (Pennie and Alvin) Update on office floor, etc. & volunteer training (Bob) Parks and Recreation activity update. This matter was thoroughly discussed by the Commissioners, with input from the attending public. The Commission agreed to call for a Special Meeting to discuss this matter further on May 30, 2019 at 10:00 AM. It was the consensus of the Commission that June 17, 2019, is the soft opening of the Senior Resource Center. (c) Discuss visiting senior care homes in Galt protocols, etc. (Bob) (Andrea) Bob shared proposed Letter of Introduction with the Commission and invited editorial changes to it. Will bring proposed Letter with the suggested changes to Jun 27, meeting for a vote/consensus. 7. New Business (1) Commission determine Official Date of Opening the Galt Senior Resource Center (Bob) & discuss Grand Opening Date – July COA will decide at special meeting on May 30, 2019. (2) Inform Commission of our current Budget (Bob) – Bob shared the status of our current budget with the Commission and Ms Lopez suggested that we submit a Request for roll-over of remaining funds to new fiscal year, NLT Jun 30, 2019. Bob indicated that he would work with Ms Lopez to have that done. (3) Update on Invitation to Mike Selling, Dir Public Works (Bob) – Issue of Sewer Fee increase. See 5. Above. (4) Update on Invitation to John Gordon, Youth Commission to work together to get volunteers of young people to assist seniors with yard work (Bob) Andrea will be reaching out. (5) Discuss and decide on proposed Letter of Introduction to Senior Care Homes re: visitations (Bob) – See 6 (c) above.  8. COMMISSIONERS REPORTS: (Pennie – Medical Appointment Transportation issue) Pennie reported on her meeting with Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottoli and his expression of support addressing the Medical Appointment Transportation issue for Galt Senior residents and his willingness to come speak to the Commission about this soon. 9. ADJOURNMENT: Meeting was unanimously adjourned at 11:15 AM.
