Meeting Minutes, February 4, 2018
Meeting held in City Hall Chambers
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Gonzalez, called the meeting to order at 6:05
P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Cross, Gordon, L. Klotz, Lampson
Adult Mentors Absent: Flores
Youth Members Present: Murillo Cuevas, Franco, Gonzalez, Martin, Ramos,
Rivas, Rodriguez, Trevizo, Yebra
Youth Members Absent: Stalians
C. PRESENTATIONS: None
D. PUBLIC COMMENT: Lali Martinez came to discuss her work and how her
center helps prepare students for the workforce and other subjects they need
help with. She brought different papers and flyers for the Commission to look at
and mentioned the March to Good Health that is happening on March 21st. She
would like if the Commission was interested in volunteering for the event.
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Approval of minutes for the meeting of January 7, 2018
The Commission took action to approve the minutes.

2. Treasurer’s Report
Commissioner Franco gave us a new total balance of $ 878.33 which is no change. This
is due to us approving a $200 budget for the Winter Bird Festival, there were also other
items that needed to be reimbursed from buying things for our projects.
3. Galt Youth Commission Scholarship
This item was tabled as Adult Mentor Flores was not able to present an update.
4. City Council Update
Councilmember Lampson presented this month’s city council update. The City
Council Financial report got an approval. The Winter Bird Festival was different
but successful. Councilmember Lampson also informed us that we are able to
notify the secretary about any mistakes on the minutes before the approval
during a meeting.
5. GYC Team Building
Commissioner Cuevas discussed the team building survey and how there will be
another survey coming out to see more dates that are possible for all of the
Commission. The Commission discussed dates and days for when they would
and would not be available to do the team building.
6. Winter Bird Festival Debrief
Adult Mentor Cross and subcommittee gave a summary/reflection this event.
The Commissioners that helped during different shifts said they had trouble
with the coffee machine or that they had excess supplies. They were all very
grateful for Adult Mentor Cross who helped them during this event.
7. Lessons of Leadership
Adult Mentor Klotz provided this month’s lesson by continuing the
Commission’s practice on public speaking. The Commission did an exercise on
what inspires them. By doing this the Commission was able to learn how to take
control of their words, get out of their comfort zones, and speak their truth.
8. Eggstravaganza Pancake Breakfast
The Commission selected members to speak at the February 14th Galt Lion’s
meeting to see if they would like to partner with Galt Youth Commission.
Commissioner Rodriguez and Commissioner Martin will take charge of the
subcommittee and formal speaking for the meeting on behalf of the Galt Youth
Commission.
9. GYC Recruitment
Chair Gonzalez discussed the recruitment and appointed a subcommittee for the
interview panel. The Commission spoke about the commitment and process of
what the interview panel will be doing during this task. The subcommittee will
consist of Commissioner Gonzalez, Commissioner Ramos, Commissioner
Cuevas, Commissioner Martin, and Commissioner Rivas.
10. Community Project: Random Acts of Kindness
Commissioner Rodriguez provided an update for the Random Acts of Kindness
week. From February 9th to the 15th they will have a different activity to do
everyday. There are seven projects: on the 9th the subcommittee can go to the
retirement homes to give valentines and roses, the 10th will be giving canned
food, the 11th they have changed the activity to spin art instead of lemonade due
to some difficulties, the 12th they will have baked goods for the office staffs of
schools each person in the subcommittee was assigned a different school, the
13th they will make thank you cards to all the non profits organizations, the
14th they will give Valentines around school, and on the 15th they will have a
field day at Marengo Ranch.
11. Community Project: Valley Oaks Marketplace Project
Commissioner Ramos provided an update and informs the Commission that
there are now applications for anyone who wants to get involved with this
project. They have also decided to expand this project to Lake Canyon and
McCaffrey. Commissioner Rodriguez took on the job of taking care of the
announcements at Liberty Ranch to publicize this project.
12. Community Project: Senior Technology Project
Commissioner Martin provided an update by informing the Commission the 1st
and 3rd Mondays will be the days that this project takes place. It will start on
March 6th and end April 4th. Commissioner Martin presented a flyer that she
would like to publicize at Starbucks or others places for the community to know.
Commissioner Gonzalez took on the job of taking care of the announcements at
Galt High to publicize this project.
13. Community Project: Helping Adults with English
Commissioner Cuevas and Commissioner Gonzalez provided and update by
informing the Commission that they have not heard any new feedback, to begin
this project. They had trouble keeping contact and getting replies for their
project. If they are not able to begin their project by the end of February this item
will be tabled.
14. Galt Herald Newspaper
This item was tabled as Commissioner Cuevas was not prepared to present.
15. Galt Herald Editorial Article
Subcommittee members will report on upcoming editorial topics.
Commissioner Yebra and Commissioner Rivas will write articles about Man on
the Street asking people what their favorite romantic comedy is. Commissioner
Franco will write an article about the classes format and the transportation
problem happening at the High Schools next year. Commissioner Franco and
Commissioner Yebra will work on an art article at both Galt High and Liberty
Ranch. Commissioner Gonzalez will write an article the acceptance and
anticipation for colleges. Commissioner Cuevas will write an article on drug use
at Galt High. The Subcommittee also said if they do not do their articles this
month it will be the last month they work with the Galt Herald. The
Commission then had a conversation on how they can work together to become
more accountable and communicate.
F. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Future agenda items will consist of the Kevin Tonn run and the Commission’s
help for this event.
G. AROUND THE HORN GIVE YOUR GRATITUDE
The Commission gave their gratitude to Jennifer Collier for coming the
meeting and they were interested on working more with their strengths in the
future. Commissioner Rodriguez thanks Adult Mentor Cross for her hard work
during the Winter Bird Festival. Adult Mentor Gordon tells the Commission
that they had more energy during this meeting.
ADJOURNMENT: Chair Gonzalez adjourned the meeting at 7:43PM.
