CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES ZOOM MEETING GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2021, 6:00PM Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth - Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE Chair Cuevas Murillo called the meeting to order at 6:01pm. B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners: Akers, Caron, Cuevas Murillo, Cullers, Enriquez, Gold, Kaur, Ramirez, Sosa Commissioner Enriquez arrived at 6:14. Mentors: Harris, Hill J, Hill M, Klotz, Lampson, Mayor Farmer Mentor Harris arrived at 6:30. Mayor Farmer arrived at 6:14. C. PUBLIC COMMENT Jackie Garcia discussed the need for volunteers for the Winter Bird Festival on February 5th, 2022. Help is needed before, during, and after the event with setup and cleanup. Parks and Rec would like GYC to sell coffee and snacks. This will be discussed at the January Meeting. D. PRESENTATIONS: E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Hill facilitated an icebreaker; what’s your favorite season and why. 2. Approval of minutes for the meeting of November 1, 2021 Action Item November 1, 2021 Minutes were approved by Commissioner Cuevas Murillo and seconded by Commissioner Sosa, with the changes from the word ‘represented” to “presented. Motion passed 8-0 with 1 abstained. 3. Letters to Editor and Council Action Item This update was tabled for next month’s meeting. 4. Budget Report Information Item Commissioner Enriquez reported $4854.45 in the GYC treasure. 5. Future meetings in person in Council chambers. Action Item Discussion over having the next monthly meeting at City Hall. Commissioner Cuevas Murillo motioned to approve future meetings in person in the Council chamber and Commissioner Kaur seconded. Motion passed 9-0. 6. Adopt a Street-city clean up Action Item Commission voted on going through December 18th’s Cleanup, even with the Beautification Committee canceling. Commissioner Sosa motioned and Commissioner Caron seconded. Motion passed 9-0. Discussion over making a video for the community to let the word out about street cleanups occurred. Mentor Klotz will contact Cal-Waste for support on the video. 7. Pen Pal Letter Project Discussion Item No report. 8. Fashion Show Project Action item The Commission voted on a budget to not exceed $250 for the Fashion Show. Commissioner Caron motioned and Commissioner Kaur seconded. Motion passed 9-0. 9. Galt Youth Commission Scholarships Action Item Created subcommittee to meet mid-month and discuss. Rest of discussion was tabled for next month’s meeting. Committee: Chair; Commissioner Sosa and Mentor Hill J. Members; Commissioners Kaur, Caron, and Ramirez. 10. City Council Update Information Item Mayor Farmer spoke on topics discussed in the recent City Council meeting. City strategic plan and goals for the city. Voting for a C-street remodel including turn lanes, trees and sidewalk work. City Council is returning to live meetings. 11. Future Agenda Items Information Item - PSA video for street clean up - Commission on Scholarships - Winter Bird Festival - Pen Pals update - Letters to editor - Retreat & Recruitment - Social Media Strategy to work with the city - Fundraising ideas - Breathe California 12. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude Discussion Item Commissioners shared a special Holiday memory and verbally expressed gratitude. Meeting adjourned at 7:08pm.

CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVISORY To protect our constituents, City officials and City staff, the City requests all members of the public to follow the California Department of Health Services’ guidance and the County of Sacramento Public Health Officer Order for the Control of COVID-19 restricting group events and gatherings and maintaining social distancing. Additional information regarding COVID-19 is available on the City’s website at www.ci.galt.ca.us. Consistent with Executive Order N-29-20, the meeting will be held via teleconference/electronically and the City Council will participate via teleconference/electronically. In-person participation by the public will not be permitted and no physical location from which the public may observe the meeting will be available.
